ABE 100 – Introduction to AB Engineering
Laboratory No.2
I. Introduction
Replacing the tire and inner tube on the front wheel of a ten-speed
bicycle. The bicycle has caliper brakes that must be loosened unless the
tire is not inflated. It has standard (not quick release) hubs and no front
fender. The axle may not be removed from the wheel because it contains
bearings. The bicycle must be ready to ride when the work described in
your algorithm is completed. Document any assumptions you make.
*Impact of the laboratory activity in your life (what you learned, how this
activity impacts your field of studies.) To be specific, the impact of learning
problem-solving methods/engineering methods in your field.
Steps:
1. Shift down the bike, use the center stand, or the repair stand.
2. Loosen all nuts that attached the brakes so that it will easily remove the wheel
from the bike.
5. Loosen up all the nuts of the axle properly then remove carefully so that the
wheel is totally release from the bike.
6. In removing the inner tube, be sure that it is flattened already. If done continue
#8.
7. Depress the plunger to the valve to release the air of the inner tube.
10. To install the inner tube in the rim, put the valve first on its corresponding hole
before putting the whole inner tube to the wheel.
11. Then, put the whole inner tube to the wheel, and the wheel to the rim
14. In installing the hub and axle use the proper tools. Be sure that the wheel is in
the center.
15. Attach the nuts of the axle and brakes and tighten them
Assumptions:
Don’t have the knowledge to assemble and disassemble.
Don’t have the tools.
Don’t have the manual guidelines.
