bring new energy into the classroom. For example, Kahoot is an

online game that can bring the element of fast-paced

competition into the class. This can encourage students to get

more involved in their studies, and have some fun along the way.
Another game that could be played in class is Poll Me. This app

similarly allows students to be quizzed in an alternative way to

the usual pencil and paper. A third app that can add to the

classroom experience is Quizlet. This app allows students to

practice for tests in an interactive way that will mix things up and

keep the material interesting. Cell phones have many educational

games to offer that will help benefit the classroom. Madison Rafter 2018-11-21 10:40 PM

Next, with cell phones in the classroom, students will have

access to helpful apps from their own devices that would help

support their independent learning. There are several online

dictionaries that can be immediately accessible to all the

students who have phones, and do not have to wait for a turn

using the hard-copy dictionary. Along with having access to the

internet, students will be able to access their emails, and

teachers will be able to quickly send a previously-absent student

a resource when necessary. Cell phones are useful tools outside

of the classroom, the same benefits should be taken advantage

of in class.

Lastly, cell phones can support new media assignments or

projects that could perhaps not otherwise be created. For

example, teachers may have students take on a film project,

such as a film adaptation of a literary text. With cell phones,

students will be able to easily record and edit their videos without

needing to rent or borrow any other equipment. Projects

including a podcast interview with a famous Shakespearian

character could also be possible with a cell phone thanks to their

voice recording applications. Students could also have the

opportunity to do a project on a short story, where they create a

meme depicting the story’s climax. There are so many interesting

and diverse projects that are now possible for students to create

and demonstrate their learning, thanks to the power of cell

phones. Madison Rafter 2018-11-21 10:53 PM

Educational games, offer a fun way of engaging students in their

learning. The helpful apps that cell phones provide are valuable

tools for students’ independent learning. Cell phones also allow

the possibility for including new media projects into high school

lessons, which can help students demonstrate their learning in

new ways. Incorporating devices into the classroom is a valuable

asset to any high school classroom, and teachers interested in

changing up their classroom should consider it! Madison Rafter 2018-11-22 8:54 AM
