INTRODUCTION

Social media, also called social networking sites or Web 2.0, are a group of web-based
applictions through which users interact with one another. There are many forms of social media
including blogs, micro-blogs, wikis, social netqorking sites, photo-sharing sites, video-sharing
sites, podcasts, widgets, virtual worlds, and more.

In this day and age, social media has become an integral part of our lives. It has created
a platfrm for people to share information instantly and communicate with people all around the
world. It has become easier for us to connect with business people, family and friends. Even,
many top most companies directly approach candidates through social networking sites like
LinkedIn. We can also interact with people of authority who might help us in our careers. It has
become very easy to get knowledge from renowned experts and professionals through the social
media. You can easily follow anyone to boost your knowledge. Regardless of your educational
background, you can learn various skills without paying for them.

Social media is not new. Media has been leveraged for sociable purposes since the
caveman's walls. Even the realm of the internet, some of the first applications were framed
around communication and sharing. One simple way to define social networking platform maybe
"a tool that lets students, parents, and educators collaborate online". The innovative use of social
media does not stop here; the students also use it for making blogs, making professional links,
announcing and making class announcements, sharing information with students, parents, and
educators.

In this review we discuss some of the most popular social media sites that are being
explored by selected students from College of Arts and Sciences in Cavite State University,
Indang Cavite. You can find out if your favourite social media platform is a part of this list and
even learn about some really good online social platforms that you can start using today.

MAIN BODY

More than half of the world’s population uses the internet. This is highlighted by social
media users increasing by 21% since 2015, with 2.8 billion users reported globally in 2017. Fully
95% of teens have access to a smartphone, and 45% say they are online ‘almost constantly’.
Some use it for only for entertainment but it can also promote positive and useful activities. For
instance, students use it to find information, promote a positive story, share something useful,
collaborate with projects and what not.
Students, especially, can now communicate and share thoughts through various social
media platforms in real-time, regardless of their geographical locations or distance. One reason
why social media is so popular is that it allows people to personalize the way they experience
and interact with the Web. Tools like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram used to be almost
exclusively used to take a break from academics, but social media is increasingly being
leveraged as a study tool, especially for today's tech-savvy students.
The use of social media in education provides students with the ability to get more useful
information, to connect with learning groups and other educational systems that make education
convenient. Social network tools afford students and institutions with multiple opportunities to
improve learning methods.
There are so many negative effects of using social media regarding to students but good thing
there are also positive effects of using it and making that a tool for achieving their future.

CONCLUSION

College and university students spend a lot of their time on social media. Maybe it’s
because there’s a huge amount of freedom in these platforms. Students are free to do as they
choose and socialise with whoever they like. In fact, according to a report by the non-profit child
advocacy group Common Sense Media, two in ten teens said they prepared more time in reading
books, compared with 8% who said that2222 social media makes them feel confident.

As the result of the survey, Facebook Messenger is the most active social media platform
with 47%, followed by Facebook with 45%, while Twitter and Instagram also top the list with
5% and 3%. The participants of the study are 40 students from the College of Arts and Sciences,
with the age average of 19-22.

In summary, social media can be an asset for learning, keeping students connected and
engaged with their field, course, and peers. The trick is figuring out how to navigate the fine line
between productivity and procrastination.
