    The prime minister and the home minister have both insisted
    that the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, stuck in as a
    temporary provision of the Indian constitution, was an
    egregious anomaly which had to go. Since Kashmir is an
    integral part of India, it should be treated exactly like the
    other parts of the country.
