LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Read an online magazine article about sport
2. Read for specific information
SUCCESS CRITERIA The pupils are successful if they can :
 Pupils can answer questions based on the audio
LEARNING OUTLINE PRE-LESSON 1. Teacher writes football, athletics, tennis, basketball, motor racing, golf and
swimming on the board. Teacher puts students into pairs. Students writes the
name of a well-known sportsman or sportswoman in each category from
another country, not their own. The first pair to write seven names wins.

LESSON 1. Activity 1 (SB page 85)


DELIVERY 2. Students look at the picture. Teacher elicits what they know about Rafa Nadal
and writes it on the board.

4. This exercise gives students practice in reading and listening to locate specific
information. This is an important skill for effective reading and listening,
especially when reading or listening to longer pieces of authentic text.
Teacher explains the task.
5. Activity 3 (SB page 85)
6. If necessary, tell the students that four different kinds of athletes are
mentioned including the example, tennis player.Teacher plays the CD.
Students listen and follow the text in their books. They compare answers in
pairs. Teacher checks answers as a class. Teacher highlights the fact that we
say tennis player and basketball player but golfer and footballer.
7. Students read the questions and the different possible answers first. They
work individually and choose the correct answers. They compare answers in
pairs. Teacher check answers as a class and highlights the Did you know? box.
