THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE:

SAINT AUGUSTINE SCHOOL SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
(Daang Amaya 3 Tanza, Cavite.)

Chapter 1: Introduction

I. Introduction:

Being a student is one of the biggest part of your life. This is

where you can learn, enjoy and meet the people that you will become
your friends. Also this is the part of your life where you can express and
share your intelligence to everyone especially to your teachers. But, as
part of being a student is the grades given by the teachers.

For us, grades tells us the product or the fruit of our hard working.
This part is we will know if we learn something new about the lessons of
the teachers. But, have you ever get a low grade just because you are
poor? Or have you ever get a high grade just because you are rich?.

In this research, we will find out the academic performances of each

student. We will find out if they get a high or low grades just because of
their financial capability. But we will leave one question that all the
students might answer this: Do you already experienced this kind of
issue? Or Do you know someone who experienced this issue?

II. Objectives

•To get knowledge from the students on how they overcome the
academic expenses that they need to pay.

•To determine if there is a significant relationship between financial

capability and academic performance.

•To know the effect of their financial capability to their academic

performace.

In the research of Allie Grasgreen "Money on the Mind" want to tell us

that there is a big effect or there is a relationship between financial
capability and the academic performance. It said that finance are
affecting students academic experience according to the National Survey
Students Engagement (NSSE), many students are still under extreme
pressure to make ends meet - and for some, its at the expense of
academic persuits such as tuition fee.
The creators of NSSE asked how finance were affecting students
academic activities. The results, NSSE director Alexander C. McCormick
said "not to surprisingly, but worrisome".
About 60% of full time senior who work more than 20 hours per week
and it interfered with their academic performance, but lots of them said
frequently looked into working more hour to cover cost. Further 32% of
first year of students and 36% of senior said financial concerns interfered
with their academic performance, 27% of freshmens and 34% of seniors
said "often" or "very often" Chose not to purchase required academic
materials because of its cost.

"You have to wonder what the impact is" McCormick said who was also
an associate professor of education leadership and policy. And alsinhe
said that "One hopes that the student are Reming books or borrowing
from friend rather than sinok going without, if a students can't open
textbook whenever need its not ideal".
Perhaps its not also surprisingly, then, that when asked whether a series
of factors "substantially" influenced their choice of major,
55% of seniors said yes to having the ability to find job, and 59% pointer
to Carter mobility or advancement, third is 52% noted potential salary,
and last 41p percent potential for management position, but for those
results still the academic interest and personal talent who have won out
with 89% off senior answering the affirmative both.
