PART 1 (5 x 1 = 5)
You are going to read a text taken from an instruction manual for a vacuum cleaner. Match
the instructions (1 – 5) with the pictures (A - H). There are two extra pictures that you do not
need. There is an example at the beginning (0-D). Write your answers on the ANSWER
SHEET/ in the BOXES after the text.

dustbag is full, or when the opening is blocked.

Heavy metal 'helps clever teenagers'

INTELLIGENT teenagers often listen to heavy metal music (0) ___H___.

The result of a study of more than 1,000 of the brightest five per cent of young people will come as

Researchers found that, far from being a sign of delinquency and poor academic ability, many
adolescent "metalheads" (2) ____.
Stuart Cadwallader, a psychologist at the University of Warwick, presented the report at the British
Psychological Society conference in York last week.
He said: “(3) _____ and spending a lot of time reading. I think that is an inaccurate stereotype.
There is literature that links heavy metal to poor academic performance and delinquency but we
found a group that contradicts that.” "We are looking at a group with lower than average self-

music, 39 per cent said rock, 18 per cent R&B and 14 per cent pop. Six per cent said heavy metal
and a third rated it in their top five genres.
