LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will:
 Students will develop an understanding of what it means to work as a team, and how cooperation helps them to
become a better team.
 Students will demonstrate positive communication skills with others.

ASSESSMENTS
Observations:
 Students will be formatively assessed based on recognizing their communication
skills, and how much they are contributing to the discussion.
 Students will be assessed through asking questions based on their understanding
of teamwork. Through these questions it will be easier to gage what students
understand why the activity involves teamwork.

Key Questions:
 How is teamwork affected by how we speak to one another?
 What is the meaning of teamwork, or to work as part of a team?
 Where can we use teamwork in our everyday lives?

PROCEDURE
Prior to lesson
 Have the class all sit as a group quietly listening on the floor so that the day’s topic
can be introduced to them and discussed as a group, allowing for their ideas on
teamwork to be shared.

 Have them sit on the floor through directions specifying “quietly, with your hands
to yourself move onto the floor and sit with an arms length between you and the
person next to you”.

Introduction Time
Attention Grabber/
Essential Question  What do you think it means to work as part of a team? 3 min

Assessment of Prior
Knowledge  Where do we see teamwork in our every day lives? What activities
are related to teamwork?

Expectations for
Learning and Behaviour  Students will pay attention with open ears, participate in the
discussions, and have positive communication skills without signs
of being frustrated.
 Students will learn what it means to be apart of a team and how
cooperation helps them to be productive.

Transition to Body
 Have students remained seated on the floor for the duration of the
introduction, and into the reading of the book.

Body Time
Learning Activity #1 Book Based on Teamwork:
 Reading with enthusiasm to encourage engagement in the reading.
 Asking questions throughout to make sure the students are paying 5 min
attention, and understanding what is happening through the story.

Learning Activity #2 Arm Puzzle in small groups.


 Instruct the students to move from sitting into a line in the
center of the room.
 Groups being selected by numbering the students off in to,
two or three students per groups.
 They will then be instructed to either cross their arms and
then hold hands (2 people in the group) or cross their 2 min
arms and then hold each one of their groups hands to form
a small circle (3 people in the group).
 Following this formation, the class will be told to
communicate with one another to receive an end result of
their hands becoming untangled.

Learning Activity #3 Arm puzzle in Large group.


 Everyone in the class will be asked to quickly and quietly join in to
create a circle.
 They will then be instructed to hold hands with two different 3 min
people in the circle who are NOT their elbow partner (preferably
across from them or diagonal to them).

Closure Time
Consolidation of  Connect the team work activities to how we can use it effectively in
Learning: our other activities.
 Restate the importance of communication and cooperation in 2 min
teamwork. Assessing which students got the main ideas.
