LESSON FLOW TOPIC: Weather

TARGET STRUCTURE: “How’s the weather?” “It’s + adjective”

TARGET VOCABULARY: sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy, snowy, foggy, hot, cold, look outside.
1. Greetings and Introduction
2. Warmer/Lead in: “Touch the cards”
-T prepares weather FC and teach S about the gestures. T sticks FC around the walls of the
classroom. T touches the FC while saying the vocab word and doing the gesture. T
encourages the S to do the gesture and say the words. T asks S to stand up. T shouts the
weather word (e.g. it’s sunny!) and S have to run over the correct picture, touch it and do the
gesture.

3. Presentation:
a. Play a video and teach Ss the tune and gesture of the Weather Song. (T follows the
teacher-student order)

b. Show Ss a picture. Say a few times “How’s the weather?”, “Look outside”. Elicit from the
class the weather and if it’s sunny or rainy. (E.g. it’s cloudy and rainy.) Then ask each Ss in
turn “How’s the weather?” and encourage them to reply.

4. Practice:
a. Memory Game
Group the class into two. Each group will need two sets of weather FC. Model the activity
first by having everyone watch the T play with one group. Shuffle the cards and lay them
out face down on the floor. Turn over two cards. If they are different, turn them back over
– it is the end of the turn. If they are the same (e.g. two sunny cards) the group will keep
the card (remove them from the game) and have another go. At the end, all the cards will
have been removed. The group with the most cards is the winner.

b. How’s the weather ball.

T prepares a different colored balls. Get the class to make a circle. Then give three S a
ball. 1. Red ball – How’s the weather 2. Green ball – Look outside. 3. Blue ball – It’s +
weather vocab. The Ss pass or toss the ball and the person who receives them says the
meaning of the balls.

5. Production:
a. Descriptive drawing activity.
Pair up the Ss and give them a picture face down. They must describe the picture (weather)
for their partner to draw.

6. Wrap Up:
