Intended learning Knowledge, Skills and Understanding

outcomes Develop understanding in mathematics through connecting mathematical
concepts and applying problem-solving skills.

Values and Attitudes

Demonstrate interest, enjoyment and confidence in the pursuit and application
of mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding to solve problems.
Assessment Students will be assessed through collaboration, class discussions, teacher
observations and evidence of their fairy bread task.

Students are to visually demonstrate their understanding of a quarter fraction by

creating their own fairy bread and cutting it into quarters (Summative).

Prep (negotiation) - Discussion with my mentor teacher; Jenny Gillon to discuss appropriate
time to do the lesson, the length of the lesson, what topic it will be on
according to their program and if the lesson plan I created needs
modified.
- Set up interactive whiteboard with Youtube clip and game.
- Set up resources to hand out
Procedure - Wait until students are seated on the floor. Use attention grabber –
shush, shush, shush, if need. Introduce that we will be learning about
quarters
- Myself to ask the students:
 Who remembers what type of fraction we were learning about last
week?
 Who can tell me what a half is?
 We will be learning about quarters today. A quarter is an object or
shape that is cut into 4 equal pieces.
- Students to watch a Youtube clip to watch clip on quarters
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnfIzE7PnC0
- Students to play halves game
https://www.studyladder.com.au/games/activity/halves-and-quarters-3367
- Myself to introduce and model fair bread activity. Ask what the fraction
it is when I cut it into four pieces.
 We are going to make fairy bread today and cut them into 4 pieces to
show a quarter.
 I am going to show you then you can make your own fairy bread.
 What do I need first boys and girls to make fairy bread?
 What do I need for the sprinkles to stick?
 (I cut and glue the butter onto the bread).
 Am I missing anything boys and girls?
 (I glue on the glitter on to resemble sprinkles).
 Now remember art is all a little… yes different so they might look a
little different to each other’s and that is okay.
 When I give you everything you need to make your fairy bread, I’d
like you to go back to your tables quietly start straight away. But
boys and girls what do we need to write on the top of our blue
cardboard? Yes, our names.
