Figurative language is a language using figures of speech or the way of speaking one thing; in
other words, language that cannot be taken literally.
There are some types of figurative language. They are simile, metaphor, personification,
synecdoche, metonymy, hyperbole, irony, dead metaphor, allusion, and paradox
(Knickerbocker and Reninger, 1963:367). The most common used here are only 7 types of
them, such as Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Synechdoche, Metonymy, Hyperbole and
Irony.
1. Simile is figure of speech involving comparison; it draws resemblance with the help of the
words “like” or “as”.
2. Metaphor is an implied comparison, with like or as omitted.
3. Personification is giving human characteristic to an object, animal, or an abstract idea.
4. Synecdoche is a figure of speech using a part for the whole or using the whole for the part.
5. Metonymy is the figure of speech which describes one thing by using the term for another
thing which is closely associated with it.
6. Hyperbole is an exaggeration used for special effect.
7. Irony is a statement whose real meaning is completely opposed to its professed or surface
meaning.

album entitled “My Way”. My Way is an album by American singer Frank Sinatra which is
released in 1969 on his own reprise label. This album is mainly a collection of then-
contemporary pop songs, such as Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson", and The Beatles'
"Yesterday", French songs such as "If You Go Away", and the anthemic title song "My Way"
which effectively became Sinatra's theme song in this stage of his career.
The list of the songs are :
1. Watch What Happens 6. My Way
