Answer The ff Questions Based on The Documentaries Shown:

1. Explain the development of the periodic table started from Dalton's Time Up Until
Moseley's Time.
2. Chemists have always looked for ways of arranging the elements to reflect the
similarities between their properties. The modern periodic table lists the elements in
order of increasing atomic number (the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom).
Historically, however, relative atomic masses were used by scientists trying to organise
the elements.
3. How Did William Ramsay Discovered The Noble Gases? what was the First Noble Gas
Discovered?
4. The British physicist John William Strutt (better known as Lord Rayleigh) showed in 1892
that the atomic weight of nitrogen found in chemical compounds was lower than that of
nitrogen found in the atmosphere. He ascribed this discrepancy to a light gas included in
chemical compounds of nitrogen, while Ramsay suspected a hitherto undiscovered
heavy gas in atmospheric nitrogen.
5. How Did Dmitri Mendeleev Arranged The Periodic Table Of Elements?
- Mendeleev arrange the periodic table in orders of increasing atomic masses. Locate
iodine and tellurium on the table and note that they are not arranged by increasing
atomic mass, and yet Mendeleev placed iodine in Group 17 and tellurium in Group 16.

What is the popular game played by Mendeleev that made him fell asleep during the
winter.

6. Tell Us Your Insights on the documentary you have seen.

- I realized that the physical and chemical properties of elements were related to their
atomic mass in a 'periodic' way, and arranged them so that groups of elements with
similar properties fell into vertical columns in this table table.
7. How Did Jons Jacob Berzelius Discovered Silicon?
- Silicon was discovered by Jöns Jacob Berzelius, a Swedish chemist, in 1824 by heating
chips of potassium in a silica container and then carefully washing away the residual by-
products. Silicon is the seventh most abundant element in the universe and the
second most abundant element in the earth's crust. Today, silicon is produced by
heating sand (SiO2) with carbon to temperatures approaching 2200°C.
8. What was the original number of elements in the periodic table from Dmitri
Mendeleev's time?
- Initial of 63 elements
9. Why is Henry Moseley's Discovery his First & Last Acheievement in The World of
Science?
- Henry Moseley was an outstandingly skilled experimental physicist. In 1913 he used self-
built equipment to prove that every element’s identity is uniquely determined by the
number of protons it has. His discovery enabled him to predict confidently the existence
of four new chemical elements, all of which were found.
10. Explain The Law of Triads By Dobereiner & The Law of Octaves by Newlands.
- Dobreiner arranged elements having similar properties in the increasing order of their
atomic weight in a group of three called triads. I found that in these group of triads, the
atomic mass of the middle element was approximately the mean of the atomic masses
of the other two elements while in The Law of Octaves, I found out that every eigth
element had properties similar to that of the first. Comnpared that this octaves found in
music. Therefore, John Newlands called it tha “Law of Octaves”. The properties of
lithium and sodium were found to be the same. Sodium is the eighth element after
lithium. Similarly, beryllium and magnesium resemble each other.
Chemistry A Volatile History

1. Enumerate The Elements used to made photosynthetic paints and a weapon for mass
destruction.

- Nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons—frequently referred to collectively

as NBC weapons.

2. Are Diamonds Forever? If Not, What is Diamonds Made Of?

- Diamonds do not last forever. Diamonds degrade to graphite, because graphite is a

lower-energy configuration under typical conditions. Diamond (the stuff in wedding rings) and
graphite (the stuff in pencils) are both crystalline forms of pure carbon.

Who Discovered The Secrets Of Carbon Atoms that lead to the concept of Chemical
Bonding?

- English chemist John Dalton (1766-1844)

3. How did the Periodic Table Of Elements developed from 118 elements we have today?

- Mendeleev's periodic table has since been expanded and refined with the discovery or
synthesis of further new elements and the development of new theoretical models to explain
chemical behaviour.

4. Who Discovered The Concept Of Radiation?-

- The discovery of radioactivity took place over several years beginning with the
discovery of x-rays in 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen and continuing with such people as
Henri Becquerel and the Curie family.

5. What was the Product That Sparked The Industrial Revolution in The Field Of Science?

- Another one of the great inventions that came about during the Industrial Revolution
was the steam engine. The first commercial steam engine appeared in 1698. Then in 1712
Thomas Newcomen improved it. Although it was an improvement, it had many faults; including
wasted heat and fuel.

6. Explain The Manhattan Project.

- The Manhattan Project was a research and development undertaking during World
War II that produced the first nuclear weapons. The Manhattan Project began modestly in
1939, but grew to employ more than 130,000 people and cost nearly US $2 billion (about
$70 billion in 2016[1] dollars). Over 90% of the cost was for building factories and to
produce fissile material, with less than 10% for development and production of the weapons. It
was led by the United States with the support of the United Kingdom and Canada. Two types of
atomic bombs were developed concurrently during the war: a relatively simple gun-type fission
weapon and a more complex implosion-type nuclear weapon. The project was also charged
with gathering intelligence on the German nuclear weapon project.
