1. a) Compare between MOSFET ,IGBT and GTO. 6

b) Draw and compare the switching characteristics of GTO and IGCT. 8

2. a) Draw and compare the switching characteristics of MOSFET and IGBT. 8

b) Compare various pulse with modulation techniques on the basis of reference generation, 6
invertor and device switching frequency, fundamental and applications.

3. a) Explain 3-phase matrix converter. Draw its neat labelled diagram and also provide the 7
switching table with various redundant switching states.

b) Discuss AC-AC, 3-phase voltage controller for Y-connected resistive load with its 7
different operating modes. Also derive the RMS value of load phase voltage.

4. a) Explain the structure and working of single phase mid-point cycloconverter for R-L load. 6
Draw the necessary waveforms and discuss continuous and discontinuous current mode.

b) Discuss the following control schemes for Matrix converter. 8


i) Space vector PWM. ii) Venturini scheme.

5. a) Explain Buck-Boost converter. Draw the key waveforms for inductor voltage and 7
current. Also derive the relationship between input and output voltage.

b) Explain boost converter. Draw the suitable waveform and derive relation between input 7
and output voltage under steady state condition.
