CAPSULE PROPOSAL

DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF NET METERING UTILIZATION SCHEME OF

BATANGAS II ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE (BATELEC II) CUSTOMER’S GRID
TIED SOLAR SYSTEM USING MATLAB

In the past several decades, electricity has played an important role in developing the
country. Recent theoretical developments have revealed that capturing the sun's energy and
turning it into electricity is achievable by the help of solar panels. With net metering, the
homeowner is billed for the net energy used each month, in which is the difference between the
energy produced by the solar power system and the energy consumed by the house over the
monthly billing period.

One primary problem with "Solar-plus-storage" system is the expenditure of integral

parts. Solar panels use expensive semiconductor material to generate electricity directly from
sunlight. Installing solar panels on a house is expensive and requires experienced people. These
systems used fixed solar panels since alignment systems are too expensive for the average
homeowner. The initial investment outlay is a significant factor in why there is a lack of support
for solar power from consumers. The efficiency of solar cells currently ranges around in high
teen percentages. The rest of the sunlight that strikes the panel is wasted as heat.

According to (Cherrelle Eid, 2015), a residential with a 2 kilowatt solar system could
offset 69% of their volumetric charges if consumption and production are netted out daily, 77%
if credits can be saved across a month, and 99% for a full year rolling credit. If solar penetration
rises to 20%, that could threaten 8-20% of a distribution company’s revenue. If utilities raise
rates to cover these shortfalls, customers without solar end up paying more while solar owners
continue to offset most of their bills through net-metering, resulting in cross-subsidies between
electricity users.

For the prosumers who has no other connected customers in the transformer, they
received a larger loss in the power factor thus having a lower real and reactive power rating.

According to (De Guzman, Mabini, & Mendoza, 2019), in order to have a better
understanding of the trend of energy consumption of the consumers, consider applications like
SYNERGY, MATLAB in simulating load flow analysis other than ETAP for a broader
approach.

In this research, it aims to design and develop a net metering utilization scheme of
BATANGAS II ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE (BATELEC II) customer’s grid tied solar system
using MATLAB. Load flow analysis is a very important step in the planning of organized
networks or modification of existing ones. By using MATLAB, the researchers can meticulously
simulate situations of net metering. Using load flow analysis, the researchers will observe that
there was a significant drop in the power factor, real power, and reactive power of the prosumer.
