PETITION FOR EXTENSION

PETITIONER, unto this Honorable Office, respectfully states

the foregoing:

NATURE OF THE PETITION

This is a Petition for Extension under Section 13(b) of Rule II

of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of A.M. No. 17-03-09-
SC otherwise known as the Rule on Community Legal Aid Service
(CLAS).

STATEMENT OF FACTS

Petitioner is a Filipino citizen, of legal age, single, and a

resident of _______________and with office address at
__________________ where she may be served with orders and
legal processes from this Honorable Office.

Petitioner passed the November 201_ Bar Examination on

________________ upon signing the Rolls of Attorney.

Petitioner is covered by Administrative Matter No. 17-03-09-

SC otherwise known as the Rule on Community Legal Aid Service
(CLAS Rules) issued by the Supreme Court as clearly stated under
Section 4 of the CLAS Rule viz:
 “Covered lawyers are those who have successfully passed
the Annual Bar Examinations and have signed the Roll of
Attorneys for that particular year; for purposes of this Rule, it
shall include those who will pass the 2017 Bar Examination
and are admitted to the Bar in 2018”

Section 5 of the CLAS Rule requires covered lawyers the

obligation to render pro bono legal aid services to qualified parties,
viz:

“Number of Hours - Covered lawyers, as defined under

Section 4(a) are required to render one hundred twenty
(120) of pro bono legal aid services to qualified parties.
Xxx”

Based on the foregoing, Petitioner is then required to

complete the one hundred twenty (120) hours of pro bono legal aid
services until _______. However, despite sincere intentions and
diligent efforts to comply, Petitioner failed to do so due to several
grounds/reasons.

TIMELINESS OF THE PETITION

The period to file the Petition for Extension is stated under

Section 13(b) of Rule II of the Implementing Rules and Regulations
of A.M. No. 17-03-09-SC otherwise known as the Rule on
Community Legal Aid Service (CLAS), viz:

“The petition for extension must be filed within sixty (60) days
before the lapse of the period for compliance.”

The compliance period for CLAS is provided under Section 6

of the same Rule stated as follows,

“ … Covered lawyers, as defined under Section 4(a), are

required to render one hundred twenty (120) hours of pro
bono legal aid services to qualified parties enumerated in
Section 5, within the first twelve (12) months from
admission to the Bar of the covered lawyers, counted from
the time they signed the Roll of Attorneys.”

 Petitioner was admitted to the _________ upon signing the
Roll of Attorneys and has twelve (12) months from saida date or
until _____ to comply with the CLAS Rule.

Hence, this petition is timely filed.

Petition for Extension be Granted and that the period to comply with
the Community Legal Aid Service be extended for another period of
twelve (12) months from ______________.
