Our research question is:

What is wrong with the quality of Indonesian education and

what can we do to improve it?

Every child has the right to an education since it is fundamental for an

individual’s development. Education is vital for a child to live a full life
and reach his/her potential as it opens many doors to opportunities
that this world has to offer and we are concerned that Indonesian

OUR
students are not provided with the high quality education they deserve.

We decided to choose this topic because after extensive research, we

RESEARCH found out that Indonesia is the fourth largest education system in the
world, however, on an education report of 50 nations, Indonesia ranked

QUESTION
last in terms of its quality. A recent study found out that 50% of
Indonesian teachers don’t hold even the most minimum qualifications
to teach, since a research carried by World Bank found out that 54% of
Indonesian teachers were under-qualified. and every year, lots of
teacher graduates don’t have the necessary skills to be able to educate
children. Out of 57 million students, only 19 million complete
elementary schooling. We found out that education is not made to be a
priority by parents; their children are expected to work instead of
complete their education. Indonesian Corruption Watch also claims
that there are very few schools in the country that are clean of graft,
bribery or embezzlement- with 40% of their budget siphoned off
before it reaches the classroom.
WHAT WE DECIDED TO
DO
We decided to work with land where the school stands.

As we have identified the problem that the
education in Indonesia faces, we now
needed an aim for this project. We want to
improve the educational knowledge of
Indonesian students by having classes with
the students of Sekolah Bisa as well as

OUR
providing them worksheets to do at school.
We also want to implement love and
interest of learning to the students by

AIMS
making learning fun for them with the
usage of puzzles such as Kahoots! .
Lastly, as a group, we wanted to provide
Sekolah Bisa with more learning resources.
As Sekolah Bisa is a school that needs as
much help as they can get, we wanted to
lend a helping hand by providing them
with learning sheets as well as learning
packs.
We included cross-cultural collaboration in
our project through interviewing the
teachers in BSJ. This is because we
believed that every single person has a
different perspective on the education of
Indonesia because they come from a
INCLUDING different background and culture. This is
why we decided to interview 3 Indonesian
CROSS-CULTURAL teachers and 3 foreign teachers of British
COLLABORATION School Jakarta. As we wanted more in
depth answers, we decided to interview
teachers who have been in Indonesia for a
long period of time. We hope that through
our cross-collaboration, we are able to
compile what needs to be done for
Indonesia’s education be it a local or
foreign perspective.
