Electric Power Assisted Steering

Visteon's Electric Power Assisted Steering

System is an energy-efficient steering system
that uses an electric motor to provide power
steering assist. A torque sensor detects
driver input and communicates to a control
module for processing. The module directs
the motor to accurately deliver the required
steering assist.

features benefits
• Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) pump, power • Improves fuel economy up to 5 percent
steering hoses, reservoir and cooler – no longer versus conventional systems (dependent on
required. application) due to reduced parasitic drain
on the engine.
• Reduces complexity to automotive
manufacturers by simplifying the steering
system package.

• Utilizes an electronic control module to relay • Enables a customized steering feel to be

appropriate information to provide the proper tuned in real-time through software
assist. modifications – reducing prototype
development cost/time, while providing
brand differentiation.

• Brushless electric motor to control the steering • Reduces warranty versus conventional
mechanism. systems (no fluid leaks and improved NVH). www.visteon.com
