Guide Scenario
This guide will show you how to do the following:
• Request a developer instance
• Download the configuration Update Set
• Apply the Update Set to the developer instance

This walkthrough guide will show you how to request and setup a developer
instance for the Scripting in ServiceNow Fundamentals self-paced course.

In order to successfully complete the course’s labs, you will use an Update Set
to apply platform configurations to the baseline developer instance.

A. Request a Developer Instance

If you have not done so already, request a developer instance to use for the
self-paced course.

If you already have a developer instance, skip to Section B in this guide for the
next steps.

1. Go to https://developer.servicenow.com/

2. Select Register from the upper right-hand menu, then fill out the form,
then finally read and agree to terms of use before clicking Submit.

3. Look for and open an email from ServiceNow (signon@service-

now.com).

4. Select the link in the email message to validate and activate your
account.

5. Sign in with your username and password created in step 2, then read
and accept the ServiceNow Developer Agreement.

6. Answer a few questions to maximize your experience, then click Submit

7. Under My Instance, click Request Instance:

Note: : If this page does not display, you can click on the ServiceNow logo or,
from the main menu, select Manage > Instance

8. Complete the form to tell ServiceNow how you will use the personal
developer instance, then click I understand.

9. You may choose any available version of ServiceNow you would like,
but London is recommended:

 10. After selecting the ServiceNow version of your choice, the credentials
to your personal developer instance as well as the URL to the instance
will appear on the right-side of the home page My Instance page:

IMPORTANT
Capture your username and password as it may not be
available after the next step.

11. Under the instance log in credentials, click the link to log into the
instance directly.

12. Change the temporary passed (captured above) to successfully sign

into your instance as system administrator.

B. Download the Configuration Update Set

1. The Update Set file should have been included, along with this
walkthrough guide, within the class resources on the Learning Portal.

C. Apply the Configuration Update Set

1. Ensure you are logged into your developer instance.

2. From the Application Navigator, type Update Sets into the filter field.

3. Select Retrieved Update Sets, under the System Update Sets
application menu:

4. Under Related Links, click Import Update Set from XML:

5. Click Choose File to locate the Update Set file to upload.

6. Browse your local machine to find and select SN-SSNF-L010

Configuration Data (2018-9-19).xml

7. Click Open to return to the Import XML screen:

8. Click Upload

9. Open the SN-SSNF-L010 Self Pace Update Set record from the list of
retrieved Update Sets:

10. Next, click the Preview Update Set button from the form header:

11. Close the Update Set Preview dialog box.

12. From the form header, click Commit Update Set:

13. You should receive a successful message indicating the commit was
completed:

Great work! You are now ready to begin the Scripting In ServiceNow
Fundamentals self-paced class.
