A Narrative Discourse Analysis to an Indonesian L2 Learner’s Account

CHAPTER I

A. Introduction/Background
Study of discourse defined as language in use, the relationship between text and
context, the ideological effects of discourse, or the ways that actions and texts beyond
language are an integral part of meaning making-- has enhanced people collective
understanding of teaching and learning processes.
Narrative research in language teaching and learning (LTL) as a part of discourse
analysis deal with the stories teachers and learners tell about their lived and
imagined experiences
Narrative has also been considered as a powerful method for capturing the complex
processes of learning to teach a language.

B. Research Question
According to the background above, the research question needed to be answered
are:
1. How narrative analysis could take place as an important piece of the foreign
language acquisition?
2. How is the discourse analysis of the narratives from the successful English
learner in secondary school?

C. Research Purpose
The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out important things in narrative
analysis as acquisition of foreign languages (2) to prove How is the narrative discourse
analysis of successful English learners in high school.

D. Significance
There are several stakeholders for this research, they are:
1. Teachers
This research surely is to improve teachers how to teach English Writing skill
especially in narrative texts analysis as acquisition of foreign languages.
2. Students
Students can be the object of this project. The result will be seen after the students
write their text and shows the improvement.
E. Limitation
There are several limitations here, they are:
1. Observing students in Writing Class only.
2. Watching the improvement from student’s narrative text.
CHAPTER II
A. Research Methodology
This research will use the field type research. Researcher will have a whole class
learner of senior high school grade XII from MA Pembangunan UIN Jakarta with
students to test the narrative of the analysis of narrative texts as acquisition of foreign
languages.

B. Research Subject
Students from senior high school grade XII from MA Pembangunan UIN Jakarta will
be the subject of the research since for their level, writing the most important skills
they need.

C. Data Collection
Data will be collected through qualitative descriptive data inquiry.

D. Instrument
Instruments meant to be used are their narrative text and evaluation.

E. Data Analysis
Data will be analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis by the source of several
theories dan literature review.
