Course Description:

In this unit students will develop knowledge, understanding and skills about music as an art form through composition, arrangement, rehearsal and
performance. Students will respond to their own, their peers’ and others’ music. They critically engage with and analyse music, making connections
with their own works and practices, expressing and justifying opinions and preferences.

General Instructional Objectives:
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Improvise, trial, select, extend, manipulate and evaluate music ideas to compose and arrange music
2. Manipulate, analyse and compare the elements of music and stylistic characteristics when composing and performing
3. Record and communicate music ideas to share performances and compositions in a range of contexts, using notation and available
technology
4. Differentiate between subjective and objective responses to music and express personal preferences as they reflect on, analyse and justify
the elements of music and stylistic features they compose and perform
5. Analyse, compare and explain the use of the elements of music within various works from a range of different contexts and styles

Class Policy:
1. Attendance is counted starting from the first day of class.
2. A minimum of 90% of attendance is required. Excessive unexcused absences will harm your final grade. If a student misses a class for any
reasons, it is her/his responsibility to find out what was covered in that class.
3. If a student comes into class 5 minutes after the start of the class, s/he will be counted ‘absent’.
4. Students should take part actively in the F2F and online discussions , if any.
5. No request for a postponed test will be allowed unless the student is hospitalized and can submit an approved medical certificate.
6. Plagiarism is illegal. Any plagiarized papers/tests are considered ‘fail’.
7. Mobile phones should be turned off at all times during class.
8. All students should participate actively in class.
