1. AAD GURAY NAMEH (MANGALA CHARAN MANTRA) Aad guray nameh, jugaad guray nameh, sat guray nameh, siree guroo dayv ay nameh I bow to (or call on) the primal wisdom. I bow to (or call on) the wisdom through the ages. I bow to (or call on) the true wisdom. I bow to (or call on) the great transparent wisdom within. For centering and protection. Can be chanted after Adi Mantra (Ong Namo …) before practicing yoga. Also can be chanted for protection before you start your car. 2. AAD SACH – BHEE VERSION (KUNDALINI SHAKTI MANTRA) Aad sach, jugaad sach, hai bhee sach, naanak hosee bhee sach True in the beginning. True throughout the ages. True at this moment. Nanak says this Truth shall ever be. Note the sixth word is pronounced “bhee.” This mantra connects the speaker to the Infinite and the Infinite to the speaker. 3. AAD SACH – BHAY VERSION (17TH SLOK OF SUKHMANI SAAHIB) Aad sach, jugaad sach, hai bhay sach, naanak hosee bhay sach True in the beginning. True throughout the ages. True at this moment. Nanak says this Truth shall ever be. Note the sixth word is pronounced “bhay.” This version of the mantra has the same meaning, and also connects the speaker and the Infinite. But with the change in pronunciation of the sixth word, this mantra also gets you moving when you feel stuck. 4. AADAYS TISAI AADAYS Aadays tisai aadays, aad aneel anaad anaahat, jug jug ayko vays I salute Thee, the Primal One. Pure in the beginning, through all time. Through all the ages, the One. From JapJi by Guru Nanak. This mantra gives one the entire knowledge of the Universe without ever reading a book. It is the yogi’s humble bowing to the Infinite. 5. AAP SAHAEE HOA Aap sahaaee hoaa, sachay daa sachaa doaa, har har har The Lord Himself has become my protector. The Truest of the True has taken care of me. God. God. God. This mantra takes away negativity from the surrounding environments and from within. It is a gift that lets you penetrate into the unknown without fear. It gives protection and mental balance. 6. ADI SHAKTI (KUNDALINI BHAKTI MANTRA) Adee shaktee, adee shaktee, adee shaktee, namo, namo Sarab shaktee, sarab shaktee, sarab shaktee, namo, namo Pritham bhagavatee, pritham bhagavatee, pritham bhagavatee, namo, namo Kundaleenee, maataa shaktee, maataa shaktee, namo, namo I bow to (or call on) the primal power. I bow to (or call on) the all encompassing power and energy. I bow to (or call on) that through which God creates. I bow to (or call on) the creative power of the Kundalini, the Divine Mother Power. This mantra invokes the primal feminine creative power, or mother power. 7. AA OO UM Aa oo um When you chant this mantra, you create the sound in the back of the mouth as if chanting in a cave. It helps communication and has been used very successfully to begin meetings to facilitate the commu- nication between the participants. 8. AJAI ALAI Ajai alai abhai abai, abhoo ajoo anaas akaas, Aganj abhanj alakh abhakh, akaal dyaal alayk abhaykh Anaam akaam agaah adhaah, anaathay parmaathay ajonee amonee, Na raagay na rangay na roopay na raykay, akaramang abharamang aganjay alaykay Invincible, indestructible, fearless, everywhere. Unborn, forever, indestructible, within everything. Invincible, indivisible, invisible, free from wants. Immortal, kind, unimaginable, formless. Unnameable, free from desire, unfathomable, undamageable. Without a master, destroyer of all, beyond birth and death, beyond silence. More than love itself, beyond all colors, formless, beyond chakras. Beyond karma, beyond doubt, beyond battles, unimaginable. This is from Jaap Saahib by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru. It brings sensitivity to the being and gives the ability to be able to compute what people are actually saying automatically. When you chant this mantra you have the power to surpass anything. 9. AKAL Akaal Undying. It is for connecting with and supporting a departed soul in making the transition through the layers that bind the spirit to this life. It is especially important to chant this for 17 days after a person has died. In addition to helping the soul make its transition, it is a very powerful way to connect with and feel the presence of the departed being’s essence, which is helpful in healing grief. 10. ALAKH BABA SIRI CHANDH Alakh baba siree chandh deerakh This mantra calls upon the help of Baba Siri Chandh, who was the son of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru. He was sent by his father to teach the basic tenets of Sikhism to the yogis in the Himalayas. He lived a very long life and is also responsible for crowning Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru, as Raj Yog, the King of Yoga. This mantra is to be chanted only one time. If one feels they are under psychic attack, this mantra has the power of reflecting negative psychic energy away from you and back towards its source. 11. ANG SANG WAHE GURU Ang sang wa hay guroo The dynamic living ecstasy of the universe is dancing within every cell of me. This mantra eliminates haunting thoughts. 12. ARDAS BHAEE Ardaas bhaee, amar daas guroo, amar daas guroo, ardaas bhaee Raam daas guroo, raam daas guroo, raam daas guroo, sachee saee Guru Amar Das will grant your prayer. Guru Ram Das guarantees it will be answered. This mantra and prayer will help you go through a difficult situation and without having to say what you want, the prayer to resolve the block will be answered. 13. BOUNTIFUL , BLISSFUL, BEAUTIFUL – SONG OF BLISS I am bountiful, blissful, and beautiful. Bountiful, blissful, and beautiful I am. I know this by the True Guru’s Grace. Oh my mother, I am in infinite bliss for I have obtained the True Guru. I have met the True Guru easily, naturally. Divine music bursts in my heart. The rhythmic beats are like cosmic jewels and bring all powers through Divine Songs. When God resides in you, the mind is filled by and echoes with divine praise. Nanak proclaims, I will dwell in supreme bliss for I have merged with the True Guru. The first line of the mantra elevates the self beyond duality and establishes the flow of spirit. The rest of this mantra is the first stanza of the Anand Sahib or Song of Bliss of Guru Amar Das. This mantra is for self-esteem and self-confidence 14. CHATRA CHAKRA VARTI Chatra chakra vartee chatra chakra bhugatay Suyambhav subhang sarab daa sarab jugatay Dukaalang pranaasee d-i-aalang saroopay Sadaa ang sangay abhangang bibhootay Thou art pervading in all the four directions, the Enjoyer in all the four directions. Thou art self-illumined and united with all. Destroyer of bad times, embodiment of mercy. Thou art ever within us. Thou art the everlasting giver of indestructible power. These are the last four lines of Jaap Saahib of Guru Gobind Singh. The mantra removes fear, anxi- ety, depression, and brings victory. 15. DHAN DHAN RAM DAS GUR Dhan dhan raam daas gur jin siri-aa tinai savaari-aa Pooree hoee karaamaat aap sirajanahaarai dhaari-aa Sikhee atai sangatee paarabrahm kar namasakaari-aa Atal athaa-o atol too tayraa ant na paaraavaari-aa Jinee too sayvi-aa bhaa-o kar say tudh paar utaari-aa Lab lobh kaam krodh mo maar kadhay tudh saparavaari-aa Dhan so tayraa thaan hai sach tayraa paisakaari-aa Naanak too lahanaa toohai gur amar too veechaari-aa Gur dithaa taa man saadhaari-aa Praise unto Ram Das the Guru, the One who created You, established You. You are such a miracle! The Creator has installed You on a throne. Your Sikhs and all conscious people bow to You because you manifest God. You are unchanging, unfathomable, immeasurable. Your limit cannot be perceived. Those who serve You with love are carried across the sea of existence. The five obstacles of greed, attachment, lust, anger and ego cannot exist where You are. The realm that You rule is the true place. True is your glory. You are Nanak, Angad, and Amar Das the Guru. Oh, when I recognize You, my soul was comforted. This Sikh prayer or shabd is in praise of Guru Ram Das who is able to manifest miracles. By chanting this prayer, miracles will happen in your life. 16. DHARTI HAI Dhartee hai, akaash hai, guroo ram daas hai Earth is. Heaven is. Guru Ram Das is. This mantra connects the energy of the earth and the heavens and balances it with the energy of Guru Ram Das. 17. EK ONG KAR –LONG (ADI SHAKTI MANTRA) Ek ong kaar, sat naam, siree wa hay guroo There is One Creator who has created this Creation. Truth is His name. Ecstatic beyond words is his wisdom and guidance. This was the first early morning sadhana chant Yogi Bhajan taught. It is also referred to as morning call. It is an eight part or ashtang mantra and each syllable can be vibrated at a chakra starting at the root all the way to the aura. These sounds create a direct connection between you and the Creator. 18. EK ONG KAR – LAYA YOGA Ek ong kaar-UH, sat-a-naam-UH, siree wa-UH, hay guroo There is One Creator who has created this Creation. Truth is His name. Ecstatic beyond words is his wisdom and guidance. Laya yoga form of Adi Shakti mantra above. This is chanted in 3 ½ cycles with the emphasis on the ‘UH” sound. 19. EK ONG KAR SAT GUR PRASAD (SIRI MANTRA) Ek ong kaar, sat gur prasaad, sat gur prasaad, ek ong kaar There is one God who created this creation. This is revealed by the grace of the True Guru. This mantra contains the essence of the Sikh scriptures. It can stop anything negative. It elevates the self beyond duality and it removes all obstacles. 20. GOBINDAY MUKANDAY Gobinday mukanday udaaray apaaray, hareeang kareeang nirnaamay akaamay Sustainer, Liberator, Enlightener, Infinite, Destoyer, Creator, Nameless, Desireless These are the eight attributes of God. It can eliminate karmic blocks, and clears the subconscious, as well as giving compassion and patience. 21. GOD AND ME God and me, me and God, are one. Eight part mantra in English to connect with God. 22. GURU GURU WAHE GURU Guroo guroo wahay guroo, guroo raam daas guroo Guru – teacher or guide that brings on from the darkness to the light Wahe – exclamation of ecstacy like “WOW!” Ram Das – The fourth Sikh Guru who inspired Yogi Bhajan to come to the west and teach Kundalini Yoga. This was a personal mantra Yogi Bhajan received after doing seva or service at the Golden Temple. By chanting this mantra, you call upon the guidance and protection of Guru Ram Das. 23. HAIL HAIL GURU RAM DAS Hail Hail Guroo Raam Daas, and heal the world. Call upon the healing power of Guru Ram Das to heal the world. 24. HAR – PROSPERITY Har har har har har har har har… Har is the name of God. It is the sound of the heart. It has the power to clear any blocks that prevent one from manifesting prosperity and success in the world. 25. HAR HAR HAR HAR GOBINDAY Har har har har gobinday Har har har har mukanday Har har har har udaaray Har har har har apaaray Har har har har hareeang Har har har har kareeang Har har har har nirnaamay Har har har har akaamay Har means God. Please see “Gobinday, Mukanday” for the meaning of the other words. This mantra is for prosperity and is combined with the 8 aspects of God. 26. HAR HAR MUKANDAY Har har mukanday Har means God. Mukunday means liberator. This mantra liberates one from the whatever block they are enslaved by. 27. HAR HAR WAHE GURU Har har wa hay guroo Har means God. Wahe Guru is the mantra of ecstasy. Chanting this creates balance between the earth and ether and eliminates subconscious blocks from the past. 28. HAR HARAY HARI Har haray haree, wa hay guroo The first line is the three different qualities of the word Har, the Creative Infinity: seed, flow, and com- pletion. Wahe Guru is the mantra of ecstasy. This mantra will bring you through any block. 29. HAR SINGH NAR SINGH Har singh, nar singh, neel naraayan Guroo sikh, guroo singh, har har gayan Wa hay guroo, wa hay guroo, har har dheeayan Sakhat nindak dusht mathaayan God the Protector takes care of the universe. Those who live in God’s consciousness and power, chant Har Har. Meditate on Wahe Guru and live in that ecstasy. Those who vibrate God’s name and relate to God, all karmas are cleared. This works on the evolution of energy, and the strength of the masculine energy. 30. HARI – PROSPERITY Haree haree haree haree haree haree har Prosperity mantra invoking the name of God. Meditate on vibrant spring green as the color of pros- perity and growth. 31. HARI NAM SAT NAM Haree naam sat naam haree naam haree, haree naam sat naam sat naam haree Prosperity mantra. Hari Nam means the name of God. Sat Nam means Truth is His name. 32. HEALTHY AM I Healthy am I. Happy am I. Holy am I. English mantra that incorporates the three H’s of 3HO. The organization Yogi Bhajan created to teach Kundalini Yoga is 3HO or Healthy Happy Holy Organization. 33. HUMEE HUM BRUM HUM Humee hum, brum hum We are we, we are God. 34. HUMEE HUM TOO HEE TOO Humee hum, too(n) hee too(n), wa hay guroo. (There is a slight nasalization after the “too.”) I am thine, in mine, myself. 35. JAP MAN SAT NAM Jap man sat naam, sadaa sat naam Oh my mind, chant Sat Nam, always Sat Nam. This is a line from the Sikh scriptures. This opens one to the flow of prosperity. 36. KAL AKAL Kaal akaal siree kaal mahaa akaal akaal moorat wa hay guroo Kaal means death. Akaal means undying. Akaal Moorat is our pattern that exists beyond death. Wahe Guru is the mantra of ecstasy. This mantra seals animosity, making it ineffective. 37. KAURI KRIYA Saa ray gaa maa paa daa nee saa taa naa maa raa maa daa saa saa say so hang This mantra is chanted with the scale starting as low as possible. As you chant the first seven sounds (saa ray gaa maa paa daa nee) you travel up the spine from the base of the spine to the base of the skull. The next four sounds (saa taa naa maa) you continue to travel from the back of the head over the crown to the brow point. The last eight sounds (raa maa daa saa saa say so hung) are projected out from the brow point. This mantra is very powerful at transmuting the Kundalini energy in the root chakra to the higher centers. Also remember that the “a” in the last syllable is an “uh” sound and rhymes with sung or rung. 38. MUL MANTRA Ek ong kaar, sat naam, karataa purakh, neer bho, neer vair, akaal moorat, ajoonee saibhang, gur prasaad, jap! aad sach, jugaad sach, hai bhee sach, naanak hosee bhee sach. There is one Creator who created this creation. Truth is His name. He is the Doer of everything. He is fearless and revengeless, the Image of the infinite, unborn, self illumined, complete in the self. This is revealed by the True Guru’s Grace. Meditate! This was true in the beginning. This was true through all the ages. This is true even now. Oh Nanak it is forever true. Mul means root. This is the root mantra that begins the Siri Guru Granth Saahib, the Sikh scriptures and is the most condensed essence of the entire teachings of this holy book. It acts as a compass towards God. 39. ONG Ong Ong is the vibration of the universal creative consciousness in relationship to the manifest or physical creation. Many other yoga schools chant Om which is the same vibration, but not in relationship to the manifest. In other words, chanting Om elevates your consciousness but takes you away from the earth. Chanting Ong on the other hand brings this same infinite consciousness down to the earth. 40. ONG NAMO (ADI MANTRA) Ong namo, guroo dayv namo I bow to (or call on) the infinite power of the universe. I call on the teacher within. This is called the Adi mantra. Adi means primal or first, and it is only chanted to begin a yoga class or personal practice. It tunes a person into the infinite power of the universe and the teacher and guid- ance that is within each of us. It is a link to the flow of these teachings. 41. ONG NAMO – INDIVIDUAL MEDITATION Ong namo, guroo dayv namo, guroo dayv namo, guroo dayva This is used as a meditation, not to begin teaching or yoga practice. This immerses you in awareness and guidance for your personal situation. Use this form when you have a lack of faith. 42. ONG SOHUNG Ong sohang Ong means creative consciousness and Sohung means I am that. This chant opens the heart center. Also remember that the “a” in the last syllable is an “uh” sound and rhymes with sung or rung. 43. ONG SOHUNG - ALTERNATE Ong ong ong ong, sohang sohang sohang sohang This is an alternate way of chanting this mantra. Also remember that the “a” in the last syllable is an “uh” sound and rhymes with sung or rung. 44. PAVAN PAVAN Pavan pavan pavan pavan, par para pavan guroo, Pavan guroo wahay guroo, wahay guroo pavan guroo Pavan is the air, the breath, the carrier of the prana or life force. This mantra increases the pranic energy. 45. PRITIVI HAI (ISHT SODHANA MANTRA) Pritivee hai, akaash hai, guroo ram daas hai Earth is. Heaven is. Guru Ram Das is. This mantra connects the energy of the earth and the ethers or heavens and balances it with the energy of Guru Ram Das. 46. RA MA Raa maa Ra is the sun energy. Ma is the moon energy. Rama was the lord of the sun and the moon. Chant- ing this brings balance between the male and female energies within our own psyche. 47. RA MA - ALTERNATE Raa raa raa raa, maa maa maa maa An alternative way to chant Raa Maa. 48. RA MA DA SA SA SAY SO HUNG (SIRI MANTRA) Raa maa daa saa, saa say so hang Ra is the sun. Ma is the moon. Da is the earth. Sa is infinity. Say is Thou. So Hung is I am Thou Yogi Bhajan said this is the most powerful healing mantra he taught. When you want to heal yourself or another, this is the mantra to use. When you chant this, be sure to punch the 4th syllable (sa) and the last syllable (hung). Also remember that the “a” in the last syllable is an “uh” sound and rhymes with sung or rung. 49. RAKHAY RAKHANAHAR Rakhay rakhanahaar aap ubaari-an, gur kee pairee paa-ay kaaj savaari-an Ho-aa aap da-ee-aal manoh na veesaari-an, saadh janaa kai sang bhavajal taari-an Saakat nindak dusat khin maaeh bidaari-an, tis saahib kee tayk naanak manai maaeh, Jis simarat sukh hoeh sagalay dookh jaaeh Oh Savior Lord, save us and take us across. Falling at the feet of the Guru, our works are embellished with perfection. You have become kind, merciful and compassionate. We do not forget You from our minds. In the company of the holy, we are carried across the terrifying world ocean. In an instant, You have destroyed the faithless cynics and slanderous enemies. That Lord and Master is my anchor and support. O Nanak hold firm in your mind. Remembering Him in meditation, happiness comes and all sorrows and pains simply vanish. This is a poem written by Guru Arjan, the fifth Guru and is from the Sikh scripture. It is for protection. 50. SA RE GA MA PA DA NI SA Saa ray gaa maa paa daa nee saa, saa nee daa paa maa gaa ray saa This is the yogic version of “Do re me.” It is an eight part mantra and can be used to meditate on bringing the energy of the lower chakras to the higher centers. 51. SA RE SA SA (ANTAR NAAD MANTRA) Saa ray saa saa, saa ray saa saa, saa ray saa saa, saa rang Har ray har har, har ray har har, har ray har har, har rang Adversity melts before this mantra. It gives you the capacity of effective communication. 52. SA TA NA MA (PANJ SHABAD) Saa taa naa maa Sa is infinity. Ta is life. Na is death. Ma is rebirth This is the panj shabd or five primal sounds: s,t,n,m,a. It is the primal form of the mantra Sat Nam. It increases intuition, balances the hemispheres of the brain, and releases negative thought patterns from the subconscious mind. 53. SA TA NA MA RA MA DA SA SA SAY SO HUNG Saa taa naa maa raa maa daa saa saa say so hang The meaning of this mantra can be found under the two mantras that are combined here. This combi- nation works at cutting through any blocks. Also remember that the “a” in the last syllable is an “uh” sound and rhymes with sung or rung. 54. SAT NAM – SPOKEN (BIJ MANTRA) Sat naam Sat means truth. Nam means name. This can be loosely translated as: Truth is His name. Truth is my name. Truth is my identity. Sat Nam, the Bij or seed mantra is the center of Kundalini Yoga technology. The meaning is at the seed of the entire philosophy, and the repetition of the mantra with every breath, inhaling Sat and exhaling Nam is at the seed of the entire yoga practice. 55. SAT NAM – LONG Sat naam This mantra is used to bless food. It is also chanted at the end of a yoga class. It is centering and balancing. It is usually chanted with the hands together at the center of the chest in Prayer Pose. 56. SAT NAM – SEVEN WAVE Sat naam This is chanted the same as long Sat Nam but when chanting the long sa sound, you add seven quavers in your voice as you mentally thread the sound through the seven chakras. After the sound penetrates the 7th chakra at the crown of the head, you imagine it gushing like a fountain into the entire aura as you end with the t sound and final nam. This brings energy up from the lower chakras and connects all of the chakras into a rainbow chain. 57. SAT NAM – SAT KRIYA Sat naam Sat Kriya is one of the most powerful and complete postures/meditation Yogi Bhajan taught. It is an entire yoga class in one posture. Sat naam sat naam sat naam sat naam sat naam sat naam wa hay guroo This is rhythmic laya yoga chanting of the two most important mantras of Kundalini Yoga: Sat Nam and Wahe Guru. 59. SAT NARAYAN (CHOTAY PAD MANTRA) Sat naraayan wahay guroo, haree naraayan sat naam. Sat naraayan means true sustainer. Wahe Guru is the mantra of ecstasy. Hari is the name of God Sat Nam means Truth is His name. Chanting this mantra gives inner peace, happiness and prosperity, and the capacity to look beyond this world to realize the Infinite. 60. SAT SIRI SIRI AKAL (MANTRA FOR THE AQUARIAN AGE) Sat siree siree akaal, siree akaal mahaa akaal, Mahaa akaal, sat naam, akaal moorat, wahay guroo Great truth, great beyond death, great beyond death, great beyond death. Truth is His Name, deathless image of God, Great beyond words is this wisdom. This mantra is a part of the Aquarian Sadhana and helps us connect to our truth and spirit as we go through the changing times. 61. TRIPLE MANTRA Aad guray nameh, jugaad guray nameh, sat guray nameh, siree guroo dayv ay nameh Aad sach, jugaad sach, hai bhee sach, naanak hosee bhee sach Aad sach, jugaad sach, hai bhay sach, naanak hosee bhay sach I bow to (or call on) the primal wisdom. I bow to (or call on) the wisdom through the ages. I bow to (or call on) the true wisdom. I bow to (or call on) the great transparent wisdom within. True in the beginning. True throughout the ages. True at this moment. Nanak says this Truth shall ever be. This triple mantra combines “Aad guray nameh” with both versions of “Aad sach.” This mantra clears the karma of the past, present, and future. 62. WAH YANTEE Waa yantee kar yantee, jag dut patee, aadak it waha, brahmaday trayshaa guroo, it wahay guroo Great Macroself, Creative Self. All that is creative through time, all that is the Great One. Three aspects of God: Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh. That is Wahe Guru. This mantra is from the teachings of Patanjali. The practice of this mantra is the culmination of hun- dreds of years of prayer. 63.
