Spark Outdoor Enclosure

Installation Instructions
Rev B - 9/5/2017

1. Remove the front door for easier installation

a. Turn 2 screws on front CLOCKWISE to unlock, using a large flat-head screwdriver.
b. Unlock using included key.
c. Swing door open and carefully lift off the hinges.
d. (Be careful not to lose the 2 small washers on the hinges.)

2. Mount enclosure securely to panel or frame. Mounting holes are spaced vertically by 20” and
horizontally by 29 ¼”.
a. The pictures show the enclosure mounted to a simple stand made from 2x4s, though it
could be mounted to a panel or metal frame. (Mounting to the side of a building is not
recommended, due to the vibrations of the A/C unit annoying the occupants.)

1
3. Run 110V AC Power lines into the enclosure and connect to the terminal block. Properly seal
the cutout around the feedthrough into the enclosure.
4. Run signal lines through of the second electrical feedthrough. Although this can be done later, it
is much more difficult after the analyzer is installed into the enclosure.

5. Verify that the gasket on the side of the unit is correctly positioned, as shown below, and was
not damaged during shipping or unpacking

2
6. Remove all packing material (cardboard and tape) from the Air Conditioning unit, and carefully
lift it onto the side of the enclosure.
a. Guide the wires through the small middle cutout.
b. Hang the A/C unit by the two metal hooks on the large top cutout.
c. Install and carefully tighten the 6 included bolts with washers.
d. Refer to included manual for A/C unit for installation details.

7. Carefully set the analyzer + stand assembly inside the enclosure, ensuring that the gas
connections align with the rectangular cutout on the bottom of the enclosure. For convenience,
turn on the power switch on the front of the analyzer before installing it into the enclosure.

3
8. Install 10 screws on the bottom of the enclosure to hold the analyzer/stand assembly in place.

9. Plug in power connections from the AC supply and to the air conditioning unit. Note that the
power switch on this panel should be in the OFF position until ready to re-install the door and
power on the air conditioning unit.
10. Plug in any signal connections to sub-panel. (Ethernet, RS232, 4-20mA, and/or relays)

4
11. (Optional) The red, blue, and yellow cables connect to internal relays that indicate malfunctions
in the air conditioning unit. The black and white wires on the upper right of the enclosure come
from a switch that indicates when the door is opened. Neither of these are required for
operation, but can be sent to the user’s acquisition system to indicate faults. If not needed,
simply tuck the wires out of the way or cut them off entirely.

12. Attach gas lines

a. Purge gas sample line thoroughly, then attach to sample inlet line. Refer to Spark
manual and quickstart guide for details on proper gas handling.

5
b. Open valve on inlet line first, then open valve to outlet second

c. Remove outlet cap from bottom of enclosure, and optionally connect to vent line.

13. Reinstall door by setting it on its hinges then swinging closed. Flip power switch to turn on both
the air conditioning and the analyzer.
a. If you want to power on just the analyzer, remove the power cord going from the A/C
unit to the sub-panel.
b. If you want to power on just the A/C unit, reach around to the front of the analyzer (the
right side when installed in the enclosure), and flip the power switch down (off).

6
14. Apply a bead of silicone sealant around the rectangular cutout on the bottom of the enclosure,
and ensure that any electrical feedthroughs are appropriately sealed against weather.
