I’m Siddhant Vaish, an alumnus of the prestigious St. Xavier’s School, Raj Niwas Marg, Delhi-54.

Right
from my childhood, music has been in my blood and following this core hobby, I’ve completed 5 years of
training in Vocals persuing my degrees in Hindustani classical music : the first three years from the
‘Gandharva Mahavidyalaya’ and the next three (still continuing) from the ‘Prayag Sangit Samiti’,
Allahabad. It’s the love for music that made me earn laurels in the various interschool and interhouse
music competitions all throughout my school life. I’ve also done a course in the pen and marker
Calligraphy and love to practice this art in my free time other than singing. Besides being a good
swimmer I’ve learnt ‘Wushu’ Martial Art training for three years. The school acknowledged my
leadership skills and I was given the charge of The Headboy of the Junior Wing in Class 7th, The President
of ‘The Srijan’ (Hindi) club in class 10th, the Vice Cultural Captain of ‘Nehru House’ in Class 11th and finally
the Joint Secretary of the Economics and Social Sciences Club in Class 12th. I’ve also represented the
school in various interschool debate and declamation competitions and have the exposure of
participating in the Model United Nations [MUN’s]. Currently I volunteer for a Non Profit Organisation:
Isha Foundation in the meditation and yoga programmes conducted by it in Delhi. Choosing a stream
like commerce contrary to my family’s medical background was a decision influenced by the yearning I
always had to know more and more about the economy and the business world. It’s my desire to serve
the nation by entering into the system, with a strong foundation that I can build in the most prestigious
institution and the dream college of every aspirant, St. Stephen’s College.

I had developed an inclination towards Economics right in Class 10th. From Studying
about the developments of the Indian economy to learning the concepts of micro and
macro economics at school, Economics has always been my favourite. And with my
highest of 99 in it, in Class 12, came a sense of satisfaction. Right from the very
beginning, I wanted to render my duties for the transformation of this nation. I was
always deeply influenced by the vision of the former RBI Governor Mr. Raghuram Rajan
and our Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, as economists. My dream of
becoming an economist and entering into the ministry sounds big to all but I believe
that I have the capacity to translate my dreams into reality. The first step to achieving it
is Economics (H). The course is undoubtedly the flagship course of the Delhi University
and one of the most sought after ones as evident from sky high cut offs. Eco (H) will help
me develop the skills to reason out the positive and analyse the negative impacts of an
economic decision and develop the ability to put the principles and theories learnt in
books into real life economic situations. Doing my graduation in Eco (H) from an
institution that has given stalwarts and veterans to this nation, will open the gateway to
Masters in Economics and fields like Law, Economic Journalism or even Indian Economic
Services (IES) fulfilling my dream of serving India in a distinguished way.
English has always been my forte. From being one of the editors of my school’s annual magazine: The
Xavier Times, winning the Best Speaker Award at various interschool
and interhouse debating competitions to securing positions in essay
writing and elocutions, English has been a lot more than just a subject
for me. Whether it was about getting the Mr.Personality title or being
The Headboy of the Junior Wing, my proficiency of the language and
communication skills in English have always been acknowledged. With
all humility, all these achievements have instilled in me, a sense of
confidence and the conviction to take these skills one level up. With the
first step on the ladder as graduation in English (H) from the most
prestigious institution of this nation is all that I could ever aspire for.
English (H) being one of the top most courses offered by the Delhi
University is the doorway to fulfilling my commitment of serving the
nation, as the course will equip me well to prepare for the Indian
Administrative Services. With a flair for the language and the keen
interest I take in watching English News Debates, the course also opens
the dazzling world of media and journalism for me. Giving the acclaimed
and eminent personalities like Shashi Tharoor, Khushwant Singh and
journalist Barkha Dutt to the nation, getting into St. Stephen’s English
(H) will be my dream coming true.
