• EXAM: 80% PEC: 20%
• PEC: Write an essay on 1 of the given texts.
Hand in on the 11th of December. You need to pass the exam
to get the PEC in your global grade. If you don’t pass, your PEC
mark will be saved till September.
• EXAM (24th Jan., 16h / 4th Feb., 9h / 6th
Sept., 9h). 2parts:
• A) Choose 2 out of 3 topics. 2,5 points each question. 1
page per question. Total: 5 points.
• B) Choose 1 out of 2 texts. 2 pages. Total: 3 points.

• INSTRUCCIONES: Comente uno de los seis textos históricos incluidos en el listado, siguiendo las pautas
que encontrará en la Guía de Estudio y en los documentos que a tal efecto se encuentran en el “File
storage” del curso virtual. Aténgase también a las siguientes indicaciones:

• EXTENSIÓN: Entre 2 y 5 páginas, sin contar portada ni fuentes consultadas

• La tarea se entregará a través de la plataforma aLF. La corrección, calificación y revisión de las PECs corre a
cargo del profesorado tutor, quienes evaluarán las pruebas de 0 a 2 puntos (nota que constituirá el 20% de
la calificación final del semestre). Si utiliza fuentes bibliográficas para realizar la tarea, puede consultar
cómo citarlas en el Harvard citing and referencing style.

• -CLASIFICACIÓN DEL TEXTO, CONTEXTUALIZACIÓN, AUTORÍA, DESTINATARIO, LOCALIZACIÓN
GEOGRÁFICA Y TEMPORAL.
• ENFOQUE CULTURAL
• -MOTIVACIÓN y CAUSA del texto atendiendo a la coyuntura histórica, pero también
exponiendo las idiosincrasias del autor y del destinatario en el marco de la época.
• -PROPÓSITO explícito e implícito del documento (sería en parte deducido de la premisa
anterior)
• -SIGNIFICACIÓN del documento en el ámbito histórico para el devenir de los coetáneos;
ratificación o transformación de la vida y las costumbres de los implicados tras la publicación
del documento.
• -PROYECCIÓN. Influencia y valoración del documento extrapolado a otros ámbitos tanto en la
época como en la posterioridad.
• -CONSECUENCIA. Hechos sucedidos con posterioridad derivados directa o indirectamente de

 READ THE TEXT CAREFULLY
• Read the text carefully and try to understand
it completely.
• Use dictionaries, History books, Wikipedia…
• Underline key expressions.
 CLASSIFY THE TEXT
• TYPE:
Legal text (law, treaty)
Article in a newspaper
Political (speech)
Literary (letter, memoirs)
 CONTEXT
• When and where was the text written or
uttered?
• What’s its historical background?
• What are the political, ideoligical, social,
economical and cultural influences on the
text?
 AUTHOR
• Mention the author/s (if known)
• Give relevant information about the author of
the text: personality, ideology, social or
cultural background…
 RECEPTION OF THE TEXT
• Who is the text addressed to? A nation,
several countries, a part of the society, the
general public opinion…?
 TEXT ANALYSIS
• Most important part of the comment.
• Summarize the content of the text. Indicate
the central ideas and others.
• Explain the text: explicit and implicit aspects
of it.
 METHODS OF ANALYSIS
• Lineal method: analyse the paragraphs in the
text orderly. Identify and explain the main
ideas in each one of them. Clarify different
aspects (names of people or places, words in
other languages,…)
• Logical method: extract the basic ideas in the
text. To analyse every idea make reference to
the different parts of the text regardless of the
order in which they appear.
 CONCLUSION
• Most complex part of the comment.
• Interest of the text in itself. What is its
contribution to the general knowledge that we
have of the period or the people involved?
• Future consequences of the text. What impact
did it have?
 PERSONAL OPINION
• General impression of the text.
• Evaluatethe ideas in the text and give your
opinion.
• In case there is a controversy relating the text,
indicate your position and explain why you are
for or against.
 BIBLIOGRAPHY
• Cite all the sources of information you have
used: books, websites, articles, essays…
• Use the Harvard citing and referencing style.
