Helium Leak Detection of Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger : Inside –out helium with Sniffer probe
1) Make sure the Gas Vent Valve is in closed position and the Gas Charge Valve is in open
position.
2) Open the Helium gas cylinder valve.
3) Adjust the outlet pressure at the Pressure Regulator to about 5 psi. The Helium gas will be
filled into the shell of heat exchanger.
4) Turn on the Helium Detector.
5) Move the Sniffer Probe to suspected leaking area. Once the leakage is found, the signal will
be shown at the display monitor.
6) Use the maker pen to identify the leaking point found.
7) To finish the inspection , close the Gas Cylinder Valve and Gas Charge Valve , then open the
Gas Vent Valve.
8) Turn off the Helium Leak Detector.
