As a reminder, to work on the Tutorials you have to login onto the Mastering
Astronomy website:

1) Click on the 'Study Area' tab on the left-hand side.
2) Click on 'Self-Guided Tutorials' also on the left.
3) Choose the Tutorial: Shaping Planetary Surfaces.
Here you click on:

Questions on Lesson 1:
1) What are the four geologic processes that shape planetary surfaces
Cratering, Erosion, Volcanism, Tectonics
Questions on Lesson 2:
2) Why are the surfaces of Mercury and the Moon so heavily cratered, while
the surface of Earth, a much bigger target, is not?

Because earth has tectonic plates, an atmosphere, which


makes some things burn up when they come to the surface, and
water and air that causes erosion.
3) Which geologic process is dominant on Earth?

Plate tectonics are the most dominant geologic process on


earth.
Questions on Lesson 3:
4) Which factor seems to control the types of geologic activity that occur on
a planet?

The size.

5) What geologic process(es) would dominate on a small, cold planet?

Impact cratering
