Ang Palasyo ni Prinsipe MATHias

Introduction
Play, Learn and Grow Together. A quote taken from the Department of Education. It is said that children should not be stress
in studying. We should not ruin their childhood from forcing them to read, write, and solve Math problems. In my opinion, children
who focus on studying only will have a great but dull life.
That’s why we developed a Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) entitled “Ang Palasyo ni Prinsipe MATHias” to
help the children specifically in Grade 2 to master competency-based skill on Adding 2 Digit numbers with Regrouping which they
were not able to develop during regular classroom teaching. Here they will play and learn at the same time.
Ang Palasyo ni Prinsipe MATHias is composed of different fun activities which are interactive, interesting and entertaining that
will encourage the pupils to study and work hard in order to learn and grow together with their classmates. This is also helps them to
identify the different parts of the castle that they are not familiar with.
This intervention material is surprisingly beautiful. When you see it, there are different kinds of enjoyable activities and
pictures that can easily catch the attentions of the pupils, especially the Grade 2 pupils who show interest in colorful objects and to
princes and princesses. It can be used with a minimal supervision of the teacher. It is very easy to use because some of the activities
are very familiar to them. It is very interactive, very interesting, eye catching and handy. It will not also occupy too much space inside
the classroom unlike other intervention materials. Because of these they will show interest in studying, they will not be bored, they
will enjoy the activities and we do not have to force them to read, write and solve Math problems.
In this SIM they will not only learn to read, write and solve Math problems, it also has Science and Values integration.
Baseline Data

This Strategic Intervention Materials was made for remedial purposes for those pupils
who were not able to master the competency –based skill on ordinal numbers.
Based on the formative done by the teacher, it was found out that 27 out of 44 pupils
were able to master the lesson or just 62% of the pupils got 3-5 correct answers. And 17
out of 44 pupils needed remediation.

Fun Activities in the SIM
 COMPONENTS OF THE SIM

Guide card presents the focus skill which ordinal numbers. It gives a preview of what pupils will learn.
It has a colorful background to make it more eye catching.
 ACTIVITY CARD 1

In this activity, the pupils will help Prince MATHias to find the right key to open the castle
through putting numbers in a place value chart.
 ACTIVITY CARD 2

In this activity, the pupils will also help Prince MATHias to open the second door to enter the castle
by finding the correct key through answering the addition equation. The answers were written in the key.
 ACTIVITY CARD 3

In this activity, Prince MATHias and her friends prepared a dance presentation as their gift for the King.
But they can’t find the perfect partner for them. The pupils will help the prince to find their partners through
answering the addition equation that will be found in the body of the princes and princesses and find the correct
answer
on the floor.

The pupils will find the sum of the following addends and put the correct flower in the puzzle.

This card will remind them to segregate their waste. It also tells them that it is good to have a clean
surroundings.

 In this activity, the pupils will help by solving the puzzle through answering the addition equation.
Then it will solve the puzzle.

ENRICHMENT CARD

This card will assess their understanding of what they have learned and at the same time they will enjoy.
They will find the way to the treasure by answering the addition equation.

ENRICHMENT CARD
This card provides an activity that reinforces the content of the lesson. They will just answer the
addition equation to put the crown of Prince MATHias on its proper place.
