The Zimny Theatre

The “Zimny Theatre” (Winter Theatre) is the main theatre

and concert platform in the south of the Russian
Federation. It was built in 1937. The “Zimny Theatre” is
not just a cultural institution, it is an architectural
monument and one of the most important sights of Sochi.
The auditorium of the theatre is designed for 970 people.
The most important cultural events take place here:
concerts, forums, festivals, contests, seminars, state and
world congresses. The “Zimny Theatre” is an important
object in a program of tourists. The “Zimny Theatre” in
Sochi is the same as La Scala in Milan.
The architecture of the theatre is amazing: there are 88
columns around the whole building, the central terrace is
the open foyer of the theatre. The interior of the Zimny
Theatre is also magnificent. The ceiling in the hall is
decorated with a giant chandelier with bright flickering
crystal. In 2005 there was a restoration in the theatre: new
technical equipment was installed, as well as the stage, the
hall, and the spectators' chairs were updated. The sizes of
an orchestra pit are considerably extended. The “Zimny
Theatre” invites bands. High-quality heating and cooling
system is installed too. So, it is very comfortable to be in
the theatre in a hot summer time and also in winter.
