LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

Name
Section & Date:
Time
Level 10
Learning Explain the different processes that occur along the plate
Competency boundaries. Quarter 1

Knowledge : Label the most active and least active volcano; the
Learning youngest and oldest volcano. Week 4
Objectives Skills : Analyze the processes that causes the formation of
hot spot.
Day 3
Attitudes : Relate hot spot with plate tectonics.
Duration
Topic: Hot spot

Resources Video clips of hot spot, illustration board, colored papers, pair of scissors, paste/glue,
Needed any coloring materials.

PROCEDURE:
Element of
the Plan
Awareness Show aerial picture of Hawaiian islands?

Video presentation of the formation of Hawaiian islands. Analyze the processes that
Activity
causes the formation of hot spot.

What geologic feature do you think will be formed at the surface of the crust?
Analysis Which of the features, at the surface of the crust, will be the oldest? the youngest?
Which of the features will be the most active? The least active? How will you relate
hot spot to plate tectonics?
Hot spot is a concentration of heat in the mantle capable of creating magma.
Continuing plate movement eventually carries the island beyond the hot spot, cutting
Abstraction it off from the magma source, and volcanism ceases. This process of volcano growth
and death, over many millions of years, has left a long trail of volcanic islands and
seamounts.
Application Using the materials, illustrate hot spot formation and label the most active and least
active volcano; the youngest and oldest volcano.

Assessment Compare the differences between the divergent plate boundaries to transform plate
boundary.

Assignment Prepare for the group presentation of output.

Remarks Continuation of the lesson.
