Nestor Vicente Madali Gonzalez (N.V.

M Gonzales)
Shaper of short stories

Failure is a stepping stone to being a successful one. It does not mean to stop dreaming or
to belittle your ability in terms of a lack of achievements. There must something that will leave a
mark in this world; in every individual's heart and soul whenever they hear and see anything
relevant to you.
Nestor Vicente Madali Gonzalez (N.V.M Gonzales) is one of the most eminent Filipino
writers. He was born on September 8, 1915, in Romblon, Philippines. While learning through his
environment and people surround him, when he was four years old, Gonzalez moves with his
loving parents to a barrio in Oriental Mindoro. This locale has a seminal influence on his writing,
as the titles of his works "Hunger in Barok," "Life and Death in a Mindoro Kaingin," and Mindoro
and Beyond suggest.
Gonzalez's mother works as a teacher while his father, on the other hand, is in a school
supervisor. Despite coming from a family of educators still, Gonzalez failed the entrance
examination at the University of the Philippines. He has failed a lot of times, but he still manages
to teach college courses without holding a degree in 1949. He carries numerous awards, honors,
and prizes while the world spins around him.
"Literature is an affair of letters," N.V.M Gonzales once says. Gonzales writes with his
careful hands, and those careful hands represent every Filipino in the world. He crafts great literary
pieces that depict his people and their stories. His works bring his own feet to work and to attend
lectures in the other country. Traveling from the Philippines to another country, back and forth,
has become his routine. He has produced numerous books and accumulated tons of awards in
different countries, translated in German, Chinese, Russian and Bahasa Indonesia.
N.V.M Gonzalez makes himself a well-known writer in each country he has visited and his
works are always recognized. He never gives up his Filipino citizenship and never leaves his home
where he earns his knowledge for writing.
N.V.M. started his career at the age of 19; 65 years later, he was still creating affairs with
letters. He passed away on November 28, 1999, due to kidney complications. He was 84. N.V.M.
Gonzalez is remembered as an innovative writer, a dedicated and humble worker, and an honest
witty friend. He will be dearly missed.
