Reverse Engineering

The Plan
Our function of the vase is to be a table lantern/container. Zach and all us of came up with ideas. We
wanted something something different that we’d want to keep in our houses on display. Zach designed it
on sketchup and will laser cut it. After that, we need to connect a few things. We’re putting the switch on
the wooden part on the side and the batteries will be underneath the wood part. When we turn on the
switch, it will light all the LED lights in the hollow part between the outside and inside of the vase.

The vase will have a container for flowers which will be 2 inches in length and width and height of
about 5 inches. There will also be an bigger container that will be 3 inches in length and width and about 5
inches in height; this container will be holding the LED lights.

What is Reverse engineering?
Reverse Engineering (RE) is the process of taking something apart and analyzing
its workings in detail, usually with the intention of understanding its structure,
function and operation.

Stages of Reverse Engineering

-Visual Analysis

-Functional Analysis

-Structural Analysis
Elements of Art and Design
The elements of design are line, shape, form, value, space, color, and texture.
Each of these elements will be used in our own built lantern. We plan to shape ours
into a rectangular container. It’s going to be a vase made of acrylics but since water
and electricity don’t fit together so well, we’re hollowing out part of the middle to put
the LED lights in and having walls between the water/flowers/gravel or whatever we
decide to put in the center and the LED lights.
7 Principles of Design
Balance - Visual weight of the elements of the composition

Rhythm - Created by movement implied through the repetition of elements of art in a

nonuniform but organized way

Pattern - the uniform repetition of any of the elements of art or any combination

Emphasis - when the artist creates an area of the composition that is visually dominant and
commands the viewer’s attention

Contrast - the difference between elements of art in a composition

Unity - when all the elements fit together perfectly

Movement - the result of using the elements of art that they move the viewer’s eyes around
and within the image
