II. Project Details

6. Title of the Project : A study report on importance of performance apprasial of

an organisation

7. Problem Definition :

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL

Performance appraisal is a method of evaluating the behaviorbof employees in the work spot,
normally including both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of job performance.

It is a structured formal interaction between a subordinate and supervisor,in which the work
performance of the subordinate is examined and discussed.

Advantages of Performance Appraisals

Documentation: A PA provides a document of employee performance over a specific period of

time. it’s a piece of paper that can be placed in an employee file.

Structure: This process creates a structure where a manager can meet and discuss performance
with an employee. It forces the uncomfortable conversations that often need to happen.

Clarify Expectations: Employees need to understand what is expected of them and the PA process
allows for a manager to clarify expectations and discuss issues with their employee.

Annual Planning: It provides a structure for thinking through and planning the upcoming year and
developing employee goals.

Problem Statement

 Creates Negative Experience: If not done right, the performance appraisal can create a negative
experience for both the employee as well as the manager. Proper training on process and
techniques can help with this.
 Natural Biases: Human assessment are subject to natural biases that result in rater errors.
Managers need to understand these biases to eliminate them from the process.
 Waste of Time: The entire process can be a waste of time if not done appropriately. Think about
the time investment when the end result is negative. It is time wasted on all fronts
 Time Consuming: Performance appraisals are very time consuming and can be overwhelming
to managers with many employees. I’ve known managers who were responsible for doing an
annual PA on hundreds of employees.
OBJECTIVE
Objectives Of Performance Appraisal

• Review the performance of the employees over a given period of time.

• Increase motivation to perform effectively.

• Judge the gap between the actual and the desired performance.

• Better clarify and define job functions and responsibilities.

• Clarify organizational goals so they can be more readily accepted.

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL OF THE ORGANISATION

In the organisation performance appraisal is annual. They appraise their employees due to their
performance about goals of the organisation. They set the goal at the start of the year and tell the
employees about the goal if the employees achieve this goal they appraise the employees.

Steps in Appraising Employees Performance Of the organisation

•Define the job: Means making sure that you and your sub ordinate agree on his or her dities and job
standard.

•Appraise the performance: Means compairing your subordinates actual performance to the standard tha
has been set.

•Provide the feedback: Means discuss the performance and progressand make plans for any development
required.

10. Methodology to be used : Once the motive & the related problem are identified,
the next step is the research design.
In research design, we have to collect data from markets & reference, then need to analyze those data
to find the solution & then adding all these things, we summed up to a conclusion.
It includes:-
Statement of Profit & Loss Account.
Balance Sheet prepared during the period and earlier.
Ratio analysis.
Cash and fund flow statements.

There are 2 types of data

Primary data
Secondary data
Primary data are those raw data which we collect directly from source. For this project I had to visit
so many people, user, dealer etc. Their responses are Primary data.
1. Direct personal investigation, where the data is collected by the
investigator from the sources directly. Here, primary data collected discussing with customers, small
shop owners, retailers etc. They share their experience & valuable comments about Coca cola,
differentiate with other drinks available in market. How price affect customer’s choice that can also
be understandable.
2. Indirect verbal interviews, where data collected through any media. It is not possible to go at
everywhere of the state. So, for some remote places, I used telephonic discussion with the dealers,
wholesalers. Question was asked regarding Coca Cola’s test, availability, price etc.
3. To get professional standard information, I needed to appoint some third party agencies or local
agencies, who helped me to get idea about the real situation. Discussion with dealer & distributors is
very important. They better understand the actual status of business, market situation, based on which
decision need to take on marketing strategy. The local agencies also arranged a set of question to ask
common people, as it helps to get accurate answer.
I directly asked 7-8 dealers, and directly discussed with the common people of those areas. The local
agency discussed with mainly wholesalers & common peoples of some rural areas.
As secondary data, I used the website of Coca Cola, searched Google for previous reports, taken
information from the bulletin published from Coke. For this, I take help of some employee of Coke.
They also provide me the yearly business report of Coca Cola area wise.
These all information helps me to analyze the current position of Coca Cola, impact of the tetra pack
on the business etc. Based on the above collected data we have used different relevant statistical tool
like. ANOVA, Correlation, Regression etc. for Analysing and decision making.
