Course Description:
English B1+ course belongs to the common Interdisciplinary Basic Education, it is
located within the component of training in foreign languages and is oriented to the
development of communicative skills that allow the training of professionals suitable
to perform in bilingual scenarios, generated by the accelerated processes of
globalization of the contemporaneity to which UNAD must respond from the
perspective of education for all with global quality.

English B1+ course is Methodological, it means, theoretical - practical, it has three (3)
credits, which are divided in 3 units through which the communicative competences
are strengthened: Reading, Writing, listening and Speaking with explanations,
interactive exercises and ongoing tutorial accompaniment in a synchronous and
asynchronous way, to guarantee meaningful learning. According to the above, the
B1+ English course is part of the foreign language component present in the
curriculum guidelines of the academic programs of UNAD is a theoretical-practical
course that has three (3) academic credits, which comprise the independent study
and the tutorial accompaniment, for a total of 144 hours of academic work, distributed
in 96 hours of Independent study, 48 hours of accompaniment and tutorial follow-up.
2. TRAINING PURPOSES

Purpose of course training:

To develop the student's communicative skills in the English language so that they
can understand and use a standard language on familiar subjects such as work,
study, leisure activities, etc. Likewise, the student can obtain and supply information
to others on topics related to the environment, using idiomatic expressions.
Course Competences:

Understanding Skills
• Understands conversations about specific topics and family that present a
vocabulary of daily use.
• Find specific information in simple and everyday written material, such as
advertisements, menus, lists and schedules.

Sociolinguistic competences
• Interact appropriately in situations related to past issues.
• Respond to direct questions about past actions.
• Express preferences and make comparisons.
• Handles a moderate amount of grammatical structures of simple tenses.

Production Skills
• Express in oral or written form past events.
• Handles exchanges within a conversation supported by an interlocutor to
effectively maintain it.
• Uses simple techniques to start, maintain and close conversations.

Digital and Technological Competences


• Uses the technologies available to learn the language, taking into account the
indications and/or suggestions of the tutor.
• Recognize the weaknesses and strengths in front of the online language learning
process.
• Seeks and recognizes learning strategies according to their strengths and
weaknesses, to enhance the language learning.
• Uses strategies of interaction with others and with technologies to overcome
their weaknesses and optimize their strengths to handle the language.
• Identifies mechanisms of expression and mediated communication for the
practice of language.

4. LEARNING STRATEGY

Description of learning strategy:


The B1+ English course is developed under the task-based learning strategy,
where the student must study and develop some content and from this develop a
series of activities that will strengthen their learning. The B1+ English course will
be developed in 6 environments, which are: starting information, knowledge,
collaborative learning, practice learning, monitoring and evaluation, student’s
management.
• Starting information: News Forum, General Forum, Course Presentation,
Agenda, Rules and conditions for the course development and how to
browse in the virtual classroom.
• Knowledge: Course Syllabus, Contents and learning supports and
glossary.
• Collaborative learning: Synchronic meetings via Web conference,
Synchronic attention via Skype, In Situ Accompaniment, Guides and
recognition, writing, speaking and Technological development forum.
• Practice learning: Activity Guide – UNAD Site Practice and UNAD site
practice.
• Monitoring and evaluation: E-portfolio, submission links, Self-
assessments, evaluative activities, Final Evaluation.
• Student’s management: Support and General information of the
university for the student.

This English course has a high practical content, since the tasks are carried out
production activities, as well as the constant review on online content of the
classroom and suggested practice pages for the development of different activities.
The evaluation of this course will be carried out as follows:

Initial evaluation: Where the student must develop an exercise of recognition of


the course with a percentage value of 5%.

Intermediate evaluations: Where the student must develop different tasks such
as writing, speaking and a technological development activities and also has to do 2
automatic evaluations, in which applies the knowledge learned according to the units
of the course with a value of 70%.

Final evaluation: Development of the final national assessment of the virtual


classroom with a value of 25%

6. STRATEGIES OF ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Description of academic support strategies to apply in this course


To synchronous accompaniment to students, The English B1+ tutors network
synchronously serves students within the following spaces:

1. Skype synchronous attention: Different schedules are organized to meet


the real-time concerns of students. This timeline is within the news forum,
collaborative learning environment and internal messaging.
2. Web- conferences: In the English B1+ course, different meetings are
organized at different times where students can interact with their tutors using the
web- conference tool. View timeline within the collaborative learning environment
news forum and internal messaging.
3. Face-to-face attendance in the CEAD: In a real time, attendance at the
centers and/or CEAD where the tutors of the course network belong. The timeline is
within the news forum and general forum.

Asynchronous accompaniment to students: The English B1+ tutors network


synchronously attends classrooms students within the following spaces.

1. Attention by internal messaging of the course: Resolution of doubts


contacting the tutor and director of the course.
2. Courier service network institutional mail: Follow-up on student
performance and direct contact with a tutor assigned on campus through the
institutional mail from the teacher to the student's personal mail.

3. General Forum Attention - forum of general questions and concerns and


forum of technical problems report: Interaction with the network of teachers of
the course for these academic spaces in order to support answers to the
doubts of students.

4. Whatsapp Line: The English B1+ Course director has a Whatsapp line to
