4:00-4:50 – Osmium
5:10-6:00 – Krypton
6:00-7:00 – Lithium
Learning Area Force, Motion, and Energy Quarter Fourth Quarter
Date: March 13, 2017 Day Monday

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
 The relationship among heat, energy and efficiency
B. Performance Standards
The learners should be able to…
 Analyze how power plants generate and transmit electrical energy
C. Learning Competencies
The learners should be able to…
 S9FE-IVg-45
Specific Objectives
a. verify that machines are not 100% efficient;
b. compute the thermal efficiency of machines; and
c. relate the factors that affect the thermal efficiency of machines.
II. CONTENT (Subject Matter)
FILL ME IN
(THERMAL EFFICIENCY ACTIVITY)
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide page: TG pp. 214
2. Learner’s Material pages: LM pp. 316-317
3. Textbook pages: pp. 316-317
4. Additional Material from Learning Resource (LR) portal:
B. Other Learning Resources
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
Ask the students: Why does the thermal efficiency of heat engines can never achieve
100% efficiency?
B. Establishing a purpose for the new lesson
The teacher will distribute the materials for the activity to the students. Let the
students read the safety precautions and rules silently.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson
Students will perform:
Activity 5 – Fill Me In (LM pp. 316)
D. Discussing new concepts and practising new skills
Discuss the thermal efficiency of machines
Facilitate the class in:
1. Verifying that machines are not 100% efficient
2. Relating the factors that affect the thermal efficiency of machines
E. Developing mastery (Leads to formative Assessment 3)
Let the students explain the factors that affect the thermal efficiency of machines.
F. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living
Ask the students: Give some ways to lessen the incapability of machines to achieve
100% efficiency.
G. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
Ask the students:How does thermal efficiency affects the performance of some
machines?
H. Evaluating Learning
Let the students answer the table below:
