Dilapidated… tortured…miserable… are the adjectives that suit perfectly

the present situation of Mother Nature. Gone are the days when birds could
hum a tune and fly freely without fear of being suffocated by polluted air Gone
are the precious moments when creatures at sea traversed in whatever
direction enjoying the freshness and coolness of the water. Gone are the times
when people, young and old, experienced with pleasure the perfect creation of
the Maker – the plants and wildlife inhabiting the surroundings. Gone are the
golden hours when King Sun proudly shared its nutritious rays.
Why are all these things happening? Why all the chaos engulfing Mother
Earth? It seems that she is having difficulty knowing what to do just to save her
life!
People from all over the world, people of the Philippines – the Pearl of the
Orient Seas – wake up and rise and make haste to save the earth in the midst of
ruins. Stop the tragic innovations that little by little have murdered our earth. We
are the ones who make all these miserable things that have hazardous effects in
our lives. Pollution… erosion… are the results of man’s attempts to improve his
way of living. It is also the sum of all his carelessness, undesirable traits that
greatly affect our lives.
Do we still have virgin forests unperturbed? Gone are the habitats of those
wildlife whose species are extinct. Trees, that freely grow a hundred years or
more nurtured by nature, are cut down without being replaced by new ones.
Who will be responsible for the excess water being poured down on earth from
above? Floods, erosion follow, leaving the earth barren, denuded of its fertility,
millions of precious lives and properties lost.
Varied illnesses are acquired due to man’s negligence. Garbage is
dumped in bodies of water instead of recycling usable materials. People who
are less fortunate get food from these polluted places thus acquiring diseases
that are hard to cure. In the present world we live in, no matter how you try to
live modestly, to live in a clean and green environment, you are not free of
these perilous effects man’s intentions to reach a goal.
But, listen to that small voice within your heart. Be vigilant enough that at
least before taking a step, it is not you alone to be considered. Could you be
happy when you get all the success yet your comrades are bowing down with
anguish in their eyes?
So it is time to take part. Help save Mother Earth! It is not too late. Be a
part by starting right now on your own. Total log ban, cleanliness, greening the
environment, proper waste management, reforestation, the use of natural
means of plant propagation are very simple ways wherein everybody can
participate. Instilling in the minds of the young to adopt these techniques would
lead to a better tomorrow for the coming generation.
If we can do these simple means, then, Mother Earth will be full of smiles.
At least, we have awakened from a long and weary slumber. Nightmares can
never take their shapes because we are already aware of the bad effects of
our own doings. As a saying goes, “better late than never.”
