Answer all questions

Question 1
(a) How is an electric shock received? Discuss the cure of shocks and various methods of
artificial respiration.
(b) Why grounding is required? With reference to the scenario shown in Figure 1, provide
equivalent circuit with and without earthing and derive its equivalent resistance and current
through circuit. What is the requirement of bonding connection?
(c) Compare and contrast between neutral and earth wire.

Question 2
(a) Illustrate the wiring of your three-floor house with single phase A.C. Also discuss the looping
out with junction box.
(b) Illustrate the various cases of staircase wiring or lamp circuit controlled by two switches.
(c) Make use of series parallel circuits to provide dim lights or full bright lights.
Question 3
(a) Draw the diagram of typical three phase systems. What are the possible four connections of
three phase systems? Derive the expressions for phase voltages, phase currents, line voltages
and line currents of Y-Y, ∆-∆, ∆-Y and Y-∆ three phase systems with phasor diagrams.
Question 4
(a) Derive the expression for power in three phase balanced systems. Also compare power losses
in single phase and three phase balanced systems.
Question 5
(a) Derive the EMF and Torque equation of the DC machines from the first principles.
Question 6
(a) With a neat sketch of three-phase, 2 pole synchronous generator, explain the working
principle of an alternator with B-waveform and coil sides at time ‘t’. Derive the generated
EMF equation of AC windings.
Question 7
(a) In robotics application, stepper motor is widely used as a driver for the actuators (locomotion).
List out the types, principle of operation and the control mechanism of the stepper motor.
