Height Work Guidelines

PURPOSE:
To minimize the hazards and the risks associated with the hazards while
working at Height (for elevation more than 1.8 Meter).
SCOPE: Applicable to Height work activity carried out any where under
execution function.
RESPONSIBILTY:
Site in-charge / Site engineer / Safety officer / Contract Supervisor /
Workmen
PROCEDURE:
 Carry out health check-up ie. Eye problem, height phobia etc. for each workman
who work in higher elevation ie more than 2.0mtr height.
 Use only full body harness with two lanyards and hooked to permanent member
separately
 Use both the lanyards separately, never make a knot of the lanyards
 Provide rigid working platforms capable to take sufficient load of persons and
equipment if any.
 Ensure height work permit is prepared and signed by authority concerned on
daily basis
 The area of working to be checked for compliance in all respect as stated in
work permit and other conditions if any on daily basis. Do not start the work at
height without signature on permit to work at height. Climb on height after
undergoing the induction training and with the safety induction card issued to
him.
 Provide safety net ( Catch net ) below height work area as required
 Do not work in higher elevation during heavy wind times unless permitted by the
site in charge
 Do not stand beneath the moving load or suspended load
 Provide continuous supervision during height work
 Use life line for horizontal movement of personnel ( Life line of minimum 8 mm
wire rope to be used)
 Use all required PPEs for the height work.
 Hold the hand tools firmly, ensure that the hand tools are not kept loose on
platform or working place.
 In case of emergency, never run while coming down the
stairs/scaffolding/ladders.
 Persons working at higher elevations shall under go vertigo test and their blood
pressure will be measured once in site stay.
IN CASE OF DEVIATIONS:
Below are the risks that would arise if there are any deviations from the
stated procedure.
 Serious body injury
MITIGATION ACTION IN CASE OF DEVIATION:
Follow First Aid procedures
Follow Emergency preparedness plan
