COMP8033 – Selected Topics in IT Infrastructure Management

Tugas Group 1
1. Your company wants to create a wireless network for the entire office building. The
building is 10 stories high, and the company wants to incorporate IEEE 802.11a by
placing one access point on the tenth floor. Will this layout work? Explain.
The Answer is maybe not. Because wireless signals don’t travel that far and won’t
penetrate that many floors and ceilings.

2. Your company is creating a new network application that allows employees to view
their pay stubs electronically via the internet. Should this application be
connectionless or connection oriented? Defend your answer and draw a series of
sample that a user accessing his or her electronic pay stub might view.
The Answer is we would a connection-oriented application for something as
important as viewing electronic pay stubs. For example, the employee wants to see it
when get holiday, they need connection-oriented application so they can access it
wherever and whenever.

3. If a company has four buildings with the farthest distance of one kilometer wanting to
create an intranet. What is the best way to create a network?
The Answer is to connect many distant employees at once, all office locations must
be able to access the same network resources. Main office need core infrastructure
needed to establish the network, such as the servers and databases. Branch offices
require no such infrastructure; the remote offices link to the main office via a specific
type of connection. We can choose a mode of communication such as WAN or VPN.
A. WAN
WANs are used to connect LANs-Local Area Networks from disparate offices-
together. Each office has a LAN network to connect all clients in the office. Then
build a network between LANs using leased lines or metro ethernet. However,
installation and overhead of LANs and WANs is expensive.

B. VPN
VPNs, which provide secure connections between individual users and their
organization’s network over the Internet, have several upsides. They provide more
secure site-to-site connections, they transfer information much faster than WANs, and
most importantly to small and medium-sized businesses, VPNs are much less
expensive, since you can use a single leased line to the Internet for each office,
cutting down on broadband costs.

4. What is the difference between Frequency Division Multiplexing, Time Division

Multiplexing and Code Division Multiplexing?
The Answer is let’s see that the difference between FDM, TDM and CDM:
FDM TDM CDM
While FDM works with TDM works with digital CDM is a combination of
only analog signals. signals as well as analog analog-to-digital conversion
signals. and spread spectrum
technology.
While it is inefficient. TDM is efficient. Has the best frequency
efficiency compared to other
systems.
While in this, frequency In TDM, time sharing In CDM, pseudorandom
sharing takes place. takes place. unique code takes place.
