BIOGRAPHY
• Dr Varghese joined Univan Ship Management in 2006 and was heading the new-building activities for the company since then. He
transmitted into Anglo Eastern through merger in end of Aug 2015. He has now since beginning of Aug 2017 joined as Director
Naval Architect in Steel Ships Ltd, Hong Kong. He has primarily been involved with new vessel design evaluation, specification
reviews, commercial and technical negotiation of ship building contracts, plan approvals, ship conversion and major repair projects
spread over South Korea, Vietnam, Japan and China. He is heading the new building activities for clients by involving through ship
design concepts, commercial and technical negotiations with the shipyards, plan approvals, ship design optimization by re-visiting
the design at the drawing stage to improve fuel efficiency, cargo carrying improvements, environment friendliness, efficiency
concepts inclusions and project management of ship constructions to the specification to the smooth delivery of the vessels into
service.

• Prior to joining Univan, he was involved with the LNG Membrane type hull structure design team at Daewoo Ship Building and
Marine Engineering Company in South Korea between the years 1999-2006. He was actively involved in the Large Crude carriers and
LNG carrier structural design optimization and in production planning. He received his PhD in Shipbuilding Management from South
Korea and his research was primarily in developing optimal production plan for using genetic algorithms and neural networks to
generate the decision support systems for the LNG ships with non-conventional structural configurations.

• He is a member of Royal Institute of Naval Architecture, London and of Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineers, New
Jersey. He has done several technical papers for the journal of ship production and has lectured in University of Washington. He has
been member of Shipping Consultative Committee of Hong Kong Marine Department.
