Teacher’s Notes
This is a seven color behavior system that compliments the “whole brain” teaching style. This
system recognizes the students that are consistently following procedures, and who go above
and beyond what is expected. I feel that it is very important to recognize these students and
their positive choices. This system also gives students a chance to redeem themselves and
recover from small mistakes. For example, if they have a bad morning I give them the
opportunity to make positive choices and they can end the day on a better note. This gives
students the motivation to do better. A color change is not permanent (with the exception of
red). Once a color is changed they have the opportunity to change it back by changing their
behavior and doing what is expected, without reminders. It is up to them. Since this is a seven
color system I do not give multiple verbal warnings, especially during workstation or center
time. If a student is misbehaving, they will move their clip. Each child will have a clip and begin
each day in a neutral position. Depending on the student’s behavior they will move up or down
the chart. At the end of each day the color will be recorded in their daily folder.
Students who end up on purple or white receive special privileges in the classroom. If a child
moves to orange they will have a consequence even if they redeem themselves. Once a child
goes to red he/she remains there (this is the only permanent spot) and he/she will receive a
phone call home. Anything beyond this point will result in an office referral. I hope this system
will be as effective in your classroom as it has been in mine.
