SIKKIM YOUTH FEDERATION

INTRODUCTION
Sikkim Youth Federation is a Sikkim based Youth Organization
formed by a group of young minds across the State. Established in the
year 2017, Sikkim Youth Federation aims at building social
responsibility among the youths, creating equity among rural and urban
students through educational and career counseling, and encouraging
youths in converting opportunities into achievements.

Since its inception, the youth organization has been providing a

platform for the interchange of ideas amongst the youth both locally and
regionally. The purpose of this platform is to provide opportunities to the
young people to explore and prepare themselves to face the challenges
and excel in their career growth, but most importantly to engage their
leisure time in the most productive way.

Until now Sikkim Youth Federation has been successful enough in

connecting with more than 1200 college and university students and
about 4500 school students-bringing significant difference into their
lives. The long-term relationship that comes with the common purpose
of making this society a better place makes this organization not less than
a family under the same Sikkimese roof.

OBJECTIVES
· To build a sense of social responsibility amongst the youth and
instill a desire to serve the underprivileged by working
collectively across the state.
· To provide a platform which mainstreams young minds of the
state for the interchange of ideas by bringing them under a single
roof.
· To make efficient use of positive energy of the youth by engaging
them in constructive activities thereby keeping them away from
getting into the wrong path.
· To contribute to the implementation of the policies of the
government by promoting collaboration among young people and
using the available resources to create awareness at the ground
level.

GUIDING JUNIORS
(A voluntarily educating students by the students)
GUIDING JUNIORS- a major assistance to the school students and
p r o g r a m o f S i k k i m Yo u t h a rich platform for undergraduates,
Federation is an initiative taken to Postgraduates and Research
provide voluntary education Scholars to connect with the juniors
focusing on school students in rural and assist them in their better career
areas of the state. It has the vision to along with their self-upgradation
provide academic and career with better experiences.

Guiding juniors in simple
words is a program where the
college and university students
volunteer themselves and go to
the rural areas of Sikkim in a
group of three to four for a period
of a month and guide the school
going brothers and sisters of our
villages. The volunteers
experience a blissful joy and
relive their childhood as they
spend a month of quality time
with the innocent kids. They are
instructed to organize various

scholastic competitions like essay
writing, debate, quiz, etc. They
also teach the students basic
mathematics, science, and
English. The program is basically
like a winter camp where the
students learn, play and spend the
winter vacation in the perfect way.
The volunteers are sent with
sports equipment like football,
badminton, volleyball, chess, etc.
so that the students of the village
learn teamwork and also
rejuvenate themselves. This is

the kind of program which not
only boosts the personality of the
students but also of the
volunteers. By the end of the
program, the students are
moulded into wiser and aware
citizens, and the volunteers who
are also the students feel a sense of
achievement and joy for being
able to contribute their part to the
society.

1. Guiding Juniors 2017-18 to the students of their respective

A massive educational
program GUIDING JUNIORS
was launched under the banner of
Sikkim Youth Federation on the
first week of January 2018. This
unique program caught the
attention of about 250 volunteers
from across the colleges and
universities of Sikkim and
beyond. These volunteers were
sent to the rural areas of the state
where they spent a month of
quality time imparting knowledge
centers. By the end of the month,
the volunteers were enriched with
a wonderful experience, the
unforgettable memories,
immense love and respect from
the students and parents, and
above all an everlasting bond with
them that still prevails in their
heart.
In the first edition of Guiding
Juniors 40 GPUs across all the
four districts of the state was
covered by about 250 volunteers

and witnessed the participation of
more than 4500 school students.
All the volunteers were felicitated
with a certificate in
acknowledgment of their selfless
and dedicated efforts to the society.
2. Guiding Juniors 2018-19
After the massive success of
Guiding Juniors 2017-18, Sikkim
Youth Federation received a

number of calls from the parents
and students of various villages
across the state to organize such
program again. Despite various
hurdles that stood in our way at
that point of time we succeeded in
organising Guiding Juniors 2018-
19 in 20 centres across the state.
The program commenced from

10 January, 2019 and lasted for
15 days and more in some centres.
The 120 volunteers that were the

part of this program won the
hearts of more than 2500 little
students and parents of their
respective centers.
To acknowledge their efforts
a felicitation program was
organized where DC East, Shri
Kapil Meena, the chief guest of
the day awarded them the
certificate of appreciation for their
massive contribution to the
society.

3. Educational tour to Sikkim
Central University for School
Students

0n 19 June 2019 Sikkim
Youth Federation organized an
educational tour to the ninth and
tenth standard students of Govt.
Secondary School Zoom. The
students visited Sikkim Central
University library and the Science
Laboratory located at 6th mile
Tadong. They also interacted with
Sikkim Youth Federation
the Ph.D. scholars and SUSA
president regarding higher studies
and various scholarship schemes.
The prime objective of the tour
was to get the students well
acquainted with the higher
education system and enlighten
them about the number of courses
they could pursue within the state.
Later the students were also
taken to Himalayan Zoological
Park where they witnessed

various animals and birds in the
sanctuary.
4. Cleanliness drive at Tsomgo
Lake on World Environment

6. Other Miscellaneous Programmes

Sikkim Youth Federation has been organizing various small counseling
and educational programs at various places. We have also been
spreading awareness about drug abuse, suicide, and other mental health
and social issues prevailing in the state of Sikkim.

UPCOMING PROGRAMMES
1. Counseling and awareness program with regard to the admission
procedure in Sikkim University for all college students.
2. Guiding Juniors 2019-20 at a grand level.
3. Awareness about Mental health, Suicide, and Drug abuse.
