language you use last time; if it is the first time or you have not
visited the Card for long time, the system will choose a language
based on your browser.
2. Logout
& Warning
If you are system administrator or have UPS control authorization, do
remember to logout or close the browser when you leave. Otherwise, if
other person uses your account to send UPS command, the consequence
might be serious.
The main menu displays the main options of the Card web
monitoring functions.
The options are [Signal], [Control], [Log], [Config], [Close]. Click the
button, corresponding windows will appear in the display area.
2. Sub-menu Area
3. Display Area
Select [Signal/UPS status], you will see UPS state signal screen
(See Fig. 4-2).
The UPS state is listed in a table.
No matter what you are doing, once the UPS alarm occurs, the
event window will be prompted (see Figure 4-4). If the window is
closed, you may view the events through [Signal/Latest Event].
& Hint
1. Only system administrator or users with control authorization can
configure parameters or control UPS operation, other users can only view
these settings.
2. The Card will record all the operation done to the UPS.
Select [Control/UPS ID], you will see UPS basic information screen,
see Fig. 4-5. You may modify UPS name, view UPS model, UPS
firmware (DSP software) version and the manufacturer.
UPS name will be showed in this webpage. NMS can get it through
the Card. NMS with UPS control authorization can also reconfigure
UPS name. You must name your UPS.
UPS scheduled task refers to the specified UPS operation that will
be executed by the Card at predefined time, like UPS start/stop and
battery self-test. The Card can process as many as 30 such tasks.
Select [Control/Schedule Task], you will see UPS task configuration
screen (See Fig. 4-8). You may view, add or delete the tasks.
You should specify "task name", "cycle", "start date", "time missed"
for a new task. "Cycle" refers to how often the task should be
executed. You can choose "Once", "daily", "weekly", "biweekly" and
"monthly". The cycle of "once" can be seen as limitless long.
"Time missed" check box is to decide whether a task should be
performed in the next cycle if it is not executed due to some reasons.
If a task is not executed 5 minutes after due time, the task will be
seen as missed and marked with "*" before the time in task table.
After specifying task name, cycle, start time (the initial time is current
time on the Web browser), click [Add New Task], and the task will be
added. If task number exceeds the limit (30), you will be prompted
"failure, not enough space". Delete unnecessary tasks in the task list
and try again.
& Note
The Card time MUST keep correct because the task is executed based on it.
Select one or more tasks in the task list, click [Delete Selected
Tasks], these tasks will be deleted permanently. We recommend you
to delete unnecessary tasks periodically.
Select [Log/Event Log], you will see an event table (Figure 4-9). You
can view the latest 250 records.
The table has three columns: start time, event and level.
UPS alarm has three levels--message, general alarm and urgent
alarm that are marked blue, yellow and red respectively. Urgent
Alarm refers to the event that has resulted in or might lead to
equipment power failure at any time. General Alarm refers to the
event that is not critical temporarily, but will become urgent if the
problem not solved for long time. Message refers to the event that
the UPS has recovered from alarms.
Select [Log/Control Log], you will see a user control log arranged in
inverted time sequence.
The control log table has 3 columns: time, control command and
operator. For command sent by web user, the operator will be
"Web:"+ user name; for NMS sent command, the operator will be
"NMS:"+ NMS IP address; for command from UPSiteCenter, the
operator will be "NET:" + IP address.
& Note
If the Card is removed from current UPS (e.g. UH11 series) to another with
different model (e.g. UH31), all event log, control log and scheduled tasks
saved in the Card will be cleared.
& Hint
Only system administrator can configure the Card, other users can only
view the parameters.
Enter a new value and press [Submit] to save them. If you have
done any modification, the Card will be restarted 5 seconds later; if
you have changed the IP address, you should use the new address
to visit the Card.
& Warning
1. Do not set the network parameters randomly. If the Card IP address
conflicts with that of other equipment (like PC), they cannot be accessed.
So you'd better consult the network administrator in your company.
2. When the Card is restarted due to network parameter modification, the
connection between the Card and UPSiteCenter, UPSiteDaemon and NMS
will be interrupted; after IP address modification, please reconfigure
relevant UPSiteCenter, UPSiteDaemon and NMS.
Select [Config/Time Setting], you will see the Card time setting
screen (Figure 4-12).
You can set time zone, current time and time server address for the
Card.
During the setting, you may click [Get local time zone] to obtain the
time zone setting of the computer that is browsing the Card.
During the setting, you may choose
Get time automatically from the following time servers
Specify time
If you choose time server, please enter primary and secondary time
server IP address. The time servers comply with RFC 868 Time
Protocol.
If you choose "Specify time", you can input time by yourself or click
[Get local time] to obtain the time by the computer that is visiting the
Card.
& Note
1. If no time server available or the time server has not been configured,
you must set or reset time when installing for the first time or restarting the
Card, ensuring the Card time consistent with real time.
2. If the time server is available, no matter whether the Card time is set, it
will be adjusted by the time server automatically.
For newly installed SNMP card, the default user is only system
administrator. To enable other relevant persons to visit and control
UPS through Web browser, you should login the Card as the
administrator, add their information and grant them corresponding
authorization.
& Note
The system administrator "admin" is a special user with highest
authorization. You cannot delete it or change the name or its authorizations.
But you can change its password.
User Name
The user name can be made up of any character (including Chinese
character), except "<", ">" , "&", "\" and quotation marks(").
Password
The password can be made up of any character (including Chinese
character), 8 characters at most. It is requisite. Your entry will be
displayed as "***". You will be asked to confirm the password by
entering it again. The two entries must be the same.
Authorization
Set user authorization to access the Card or UPS. Refer to Table
4-1.
Table 4-1 User Authorization table
Name Authorziation
Administrator þConfiguration þControl UPS þView UPS State
Control ¨Configuration þControrl UPS þView UPS State
Query ¨Configuration ¨Control UPS þView UPS State

& Suggestion
To enhance the security of UPS and your computer system, you'd better
grant "Query" authorization to most users, "Control" authorization to UPS
manager and "Administrator" to SNMP Card administrator.
After confirming the correctness of the above information, click [Add
New User], then the user will be added to the user table and is able
to visit the Card through Web browser.
3. Deleting User
You can also delete users that no longer need visit the Card. Select
the user you want to delete and click [Delete Selected Users].
& Hint
There are two methods to forbid a user from visiting the Card:
1. Delete User: block the user away from the Card forever;
2. Modify Authorization: change user authorization to "No Access",
temporarily disable user's access to the Card until you re-grant him/her the
right.
1. Adding NMS
& Note:
Community String is a code for NMS to visit SNMP agent. Pay attention to
the capital/small letters.
NMS UPS Authorization
Refer to Table 4-3 for the various authorization levels for NMS to visit
UPS SNMP Agent.
Table 4-3 NMS Authorization table
Name Authorization
Administrator þConfigure NMS table þControl UPS þView UPS State
Control ¨Configure NMS table þControl UPS þView UPS State
Query ¨Configure NMS table ¨Control UPS þView UPS State
No Access ¨Configure NMS table ¨Control UPS ¨View UPS State
& Suggestion
Generally, we grant configuration authorization to UPS-control NMS,
query authorization to other NMS.
TRAP Level (Alarm Level)
When UPS alarm occurs, SNMP agent will send TRAP to NMS. You
may set TRAP level to filter these alarms. Only the alarm whose
level is equal to or greater than the trap level will be sent to NMS.
The TRAP levels are:
1) Information: receive all UPS alarm including message.
2) Warning: receive important and serious alarm.
3) Severe: receive urgent alarm only.
4) No Trap: no alarm will be sent.
After the configuration, click [Add New NMS] to add it to the NMS
table.
Select a NMS in the NMS table or input the IP address, modify its
property and then click [Modify NMS] to save.
3. Deleting NMS
Select one or more NMS in the NMS table, click [Delete Selected
NMS]. When a NMS is deleted, it will not be allowed to visit SNMP
agent any more.
& Note
1. Connection status: if the UPSiteCenter are communicating with the Card,
the status will be shown as "Connecting"; if UPSiteDaemon is ready to
receive alarm, it will be "listening"; if both UPSiteCenter and
UPSiteDaemon are running, it will be "Connecting+listening".
2. The max. concurrent number of UPSiteCenters and UPSiteDaemons
connected to the Card is 64. Because some computers run both
UPSiteCenter and UPSiteDaemon at the same time, the computers that
communicate with the Card might be less than 64.
Select a monitoring center in the table, modify its type and then click
[Modify Center].
On this screen, you will see current version of the firmware and
current available language.
You may choose:
Upgrade Firmware
Replace Language
When you choose "Replace Language", please select the desired
language in the language list.
Now, you can upgrade firmware or replace language following the
steps below.
& Warning
1. After firmware upgrade, all parameters except the Card IP address will be
cleared. You need reconfigure them. History alarm data and user control
records will be erased too.
2. Do not upgrade the firmware when the UPS works in battery mode or
bypass mode, otherwise, if power failure during the process, the Card will
be damaged.
3. Do not pull the Card out from UPS during the upgrading; otherwise, the
Card might be damaged.
4. The erasing ability of the Card FLASH memory is limited. Do not write
into the same firmware file frequently using the upgrade function,
otherwise, the FLASH memory might be damaged and the Card will thus
be unavailable. But normal upgrade operation will not result in such
problem.
5. You'd better NOT replace the default language--English, because all Web
browser support English display.
1. Download from our website or ask your supplier for the latest
version of firmware and language package;
2. Start TFTP server, copy the firmware file to its main directory. The
TFTP server can be downloaded from the Internet for free or you
may contact the suppliers for it;
3. Enter the computer IP address that runs TFTP Server;
4. Enter the updating file name (See Fig. 4-17);
5. Click [Submit] to begin upgrading, after the upgrade, the Card will
be restarted.
If you have problem during the upgrade, contact your supplier.

5.3.1 Authorization
To enable NMS to control UPS through the Card agent function, you
should apply to the Card administrator for management authorization,
and add NMS information to the Card NMS table.
& Hint
When modifying NMS, you must send all of the following NMS properties
to the Card in a submitting session; otherwise, you will be prompted error
message.
1. IP address: managerAddr
2. Public Community String: publicCommunityString
3. Private Community String: privateCommunityString
4. Operation authorization: managerPrivilege
5. TRAP level: acceptTrapLevel
6. Add/delete/modify options: managerAccept
& Hint
1. The community string used in getting UPS data must be the same with
the public or private community string set in the Card.
2. The community string used in setting UPS data or sending UPS control
command must be the same with the private community string set in the
Card.
3. If you are granted "query" authorization, you can only view UPS state
and input/output signals, but not control UPS.
4. If your NMS has UPS control authorization, the Card will record all your
control actions to the UPS through your NMS.
5. If you want to modify a table, you must configure all the writable
properties of it and submit them to the Card, only in this way, your
modifications will be accepted.
6. If control failure due to lack of authorization or community string error,
NMS will receive an AUTH_FAILURE TRAP.

Add the IP address of the computer that runs UPSiteCenter to the
monitoring center table and grant it "UPSiteCenter" authorization.
See Section 4.8.6.
Appendix B Troubleshooting
B.1 Installation Q&A
Answer: Because it takes only a few seconds to start the card, you
cannot see the start process if you don't run Hyper Terminal before
the installation. If you do have start Hyper Terminal before the
installation, but you cannot see the process, refer to question 2 in
Section B.2.
Answer: No, if you don't know the IP address. Otherwise you may
follow the steps below to configure your card through Telnet mode. If
it is a new card, the default address is 100.100.100.100.
(1) Connect the Card to the network;
(2) Modify the network parameters of a computer located in the
same intranet (in the same HUB or Switch is better) with the Card, to
get them in the same network section. Suppose the Card IP address
is: 100.100.100.100, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0, gateway: 0.0.0.0,
then the computer IP address may be: 100.100.100.101, subnet
mask: 255.255.255.0, gateway: 0.0.0.0.
(3) Restart the computer, visit the Card in Telnet mode, login as
admin (default password: admin).
(4) After login, set the Card network parameters. The Card will be
restarted automatically. You may visit the Card using new IP address
later on.
(5) Resume the network parameter of the computer.
Answer: The Card has not connected to the network, please connect
it to the network. After building up network connection, when the
Card receiving data from the network, the yellow light will blink, if no
data transmitting, the yellow light will keep turning on.
4. Why can some computers visit the Card but some cannot,
but these computer can visit each other?
Answer: Too many network users (including Web users and NMS).
The card can respond only 8 Web users and 4 inquiring NMS
concurrently. Please close or stop some Web browser or NMS and
try again.
Answer: (1) The NMS does not exist in NMS table of the Card. Ask
the Card administrator to add it;
(2) Community string error. NMS will receive AUTH-FAILURE TRAP
at this time. Attention: the community string used in sending
request must be the same with that set in NMS table, namely, public
community string for Get request and private community string for
SET request.
(3) Network error. Check network connection.
