Distributive Justice:

- Justice that is concerned with the distribution or allotment of goods, duties,

and privileges in concert with the merits of individuals, and the best
interests of society.
- Equal work should provide individuals with an equal outcome in terms of
goods acquired or the ability to acquire good
Benefits:
1. Merit
- Equity: Equity is giving everyone what they need to be successful
- Shortcomings:
- 1. Creates competition (ex: pseudo group- obstructs other people’s effort
because they see them as a competitor: group work that involves the best
reporter to be exempted to a quiz, a class wherein the top scores get
exempted to exams)
- 2. Extrinsic than Intrinsic
- 3. More contribution, higher value
- 4. Qualities give advantage
- 5. Power for future benefits
-
2. Equality system
- aims to ensure that everyone gets the same things no matter
- effective group/high-performance group: clear operational goals, two-ways
communication , distributed leadership, power based on expertise
(ex: bball game everyone from the team gets a medal, fun run gets a finisher
medal)

3. Need
- There is a natural tendency for a group to help one another

Constructive Competition:
- Constructive: they are useful and intended to help or improve something
- Constructive conflict embraces differing ideas and worldviews, to move the
company toward its goals and mission. This type of conflict increases
productivity, rather than hampers it.
- Self-worth protection: Not reviewing for the test questionnaire given to
participants in a competition
- Self- handicapping: telling that you feel ill the day of the competition
- - Defensive pessimism: Those who use the strategy feel anxious and out
of control as they think about an upcoming situation. In response to those
feelings, they set pessimistic expectations about how things will go, and
they mentally rehearse all the things they can think of that might happen.
-
Social independence:
- ‘Social interdependence’ exists when individuals share common goals and
everyone’s outcomes are affected by the actions of the others
1. Winning is unimportant – high anxiety will hinder performance
- (ex: feeling anxious around teammates will make your performance in
game poor)
2. All participants have a reasonable chance to win
- (ex: quiz bee, everyone was chosen because of their mastery about a
certain subject, no one will feel more superior)
3. There are clear and specific rules, procedures and criteria for winning

Conditions for constructive individual efforts:

1.
2.
3. Being a top student in class

For example, you are new cook in a restaurant

4. Learning recipes
5. Using basic tools in the kitchen, doing basic skills in cooking
6. On restaurant opening
