IRR of RA 11058
Construction heavy equipment safety is
important because;
Workers
plus
moving heavy
equipment s
plus
a site with few
safety standards
can be deadly.
 Falling equipment
 Falling loads
 Swinging Backhoes, loaders, cranes
 Roll Over
 Being run over
 Being pinned between two vehicles, etc.
Construction equipment are so large
sometimes that the potential for
crushing more than one worker in
a topple is great.
ACEL Classification (ACEL – Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors)

Has classified construction equipment into 18 major categories:

1. Earthmoving Equipment 10. Pumping Equipment

2. Compaction Equipment 11. Power Generating Equipment
3. Lifting Equipment 12. Shop Equipment
4. Excavating Equipment 13. Special Support Equipment
5. Foundation Equipment 14. Miscellaneous Equipment
6. Asphalting Equipment 15. Plants
7. Concreting Equipment 16. Off Shore Equipment
8. Hauling Equipment 17. Cable Stringing Equipment
9. Air Equipment 18. Others

Scrapers
Scrapers
 earthmoving machines
capable of digging and
loading, hauling and
dumping, and spreading.
Tractor Drawn Scraper
 is designed to make
shallow cuts, haul the
material for a considerable
distance, and spread it in
thin layers.
Motorized Scraper
Use of scrapers is controlled primarily by
osize of the projects,
otype of material, and
olength of haul.
Where digging is difficult,
they are sometimes
supplemented by
 rooters / tractor-drawn
rooters to loosen earth or ROOTERS TO LOOSEN EARTH

pusher tractors to aid in

digging and loading to
capacity.

COMPACTION EQUIPMENT
Compaction is attained by
applying energy to the
soil by one of the
following methods;
TANDEM ROLLER  Static weight
 Kneading action
Types of Compacting Machines  Vibration
 Smooth Wheel Rollers  Impact
Sheepsfoot Rollers
 Pneumatic Tired Rollers
 Vibrating rollers, (including sheepsfoot, smooth wheel,
and pneumatic)
 Self propelled vibrating plates or shoes
Self Propelled Compactors

TOWER
CRANE
TWO BASIC TYPES OF TOWER CRANE
1. Self Erect Tower Crane
Designed to be easily and rapidly transported and
erected. Some of them carry their own generator and
are therefore completely self contained.
TWO BASIC TYPES OF TOWER CRANE
2. Assisted Erect Tower Crane
Usually with a larger lifting capacity than the
Self Erect.
Its design calls for it to be built-on site,
piece by piece, often with the assistance
of a mobile crane.
a. Luffing Jib Tower Crane
b. Hammer Head Tower Crane
c. Flat Top Tower Crane
How Do They Grow?
How Do They Grow?

Tower cranes arrive at the

construction site on trailer trucks.
The mast rises
from a firm
foundation.
The mast is a large
triangulated lattice structure. MAST
The triangulated lattice
structure gives the mast the
strength to remain upright.
The crew then install a
top climber or climbing
frame that fits between
the slewing unit and
the top of the mast.

MAST
 The slewing unit is
then installed at the
top mast climber.
 The tower top is
then installed at the
top of the slewing unit
using a mobile crane.
The crew uses again
a mobile crane to
assemble the short
jib and the machinery
section.
And assembles the
long jib and the tower
crane’s trolley.
The mobile crane
then adds the
counterweights.
To rise to its
maximum height,
the crane grows
itself one mast
section at a time!
A new mast section is
hoisted up the tower
with the hoist rope
and is suspended from
the monorail.
The crew then hangs a
weight on the long jib to
balance the counterweight.
The crew then detaches the
slewing unit from the top of
the mast.
Large hydraulic rams in the
top climber push the slewing
unit up to accommodate one
mast section.
Then, the crew pulled
the new section through
the monorail,

Once bolted in place,

the crane is one mast
section taller!
Cranes erected
outside the building
are tied to the
building structure
for support.
The closer the load is positioned to
the mast, the more weight the crane
can lift safely.
