LESSON TITLE: Language of Inquiry/ Seeking Information

PROFILE:

Audience: Adult

Level: 04 - Intermediate

Duration: 45 minutes

Skills: Listening Speaking Reading Writing

Description: Students will use the language to acquire information (topic of interest) and inquire
Students learn to understand and generate oral and written language with verbs and
verb phrases in questions. Students will be asked to express an opinion upon the
topic discussed

Target Detailed questions with verb phrases


Language:
Sentence structure (I think / believe that….In my opinion…Based on my experience,
I think __ should ___ because / so …

Grammar: Who, what, where, why, which, how with auxiliary verbs.
Complex sentences using modals and clauses

PROCEDURE:

Teacher introduces a discussion task and explains the expectations for task completion. Students are
allowed to jot down a few ideas. Teacher elicits questions from students. Teacher provides language
frames to enable students to accurately ask for information. Students use the new language in order to
reformulate their questions. Teacher models a response using a starter. Students are given time to write
complete responses and share them with an assigned partner. To increase active listening, students are
required to paraphrase their partner's idea. Teacher monitors and gives feeback on their outputs.
