Important Information From the Chapter: 
**Patrons sponsored expeditions for three reasons: GOLD, GOD, AND GLORY. Know 
what these words mean and WHY they were motivation to pay for expeditions. 
 
**Prince Henry’s School of Navigation: Helped sailors learn about map making, 
navigation, ship building and exploring. 
 
**The Age of Exploration was difficult for many Native American groups. They lost 
their homes and lands, were exposed to diseases, and their culture was changed due to 
explorers and their actions. 
 
**The Columbian Exchange was an exchange of cultures and goods between Europe and 
newly explored lands. It introduced crops and animals to cultures who had never tried 
them before. 
Make sure you can read this map, and answer questions about the 
explorers and expeditions.
