LIST OF FUNCTIONAL TEST REQUIRED FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Functional test for the system shall be conducted for performance, safety, reliability and for
compliance with the specified requirements. These tests shall be performed progressively on site in
accordance with the Contract programed to verify that the complete installation will meet the required
of the specification.

General Checks and Inspections

a. Check correct CT ratio and polarity and correct operation of all protective gear by primary
test and system fault test to check sensitivity and stability.
b. Secondary current injection test for accuracy of relay operations. Protective gear timing
tests as may be necessary.
c. Rotational test on all motors.
d. Battery test on specific gravity, correct output voltage, discharge test and proper functioning
of the charging equipment.
e. Test to prove correct operation of all interlocks, tripping and closing circuits, alarm indicators,
etc. including operation in conjunction with the standby generator for emergency operation
of lofts, etc.
f. Phasing test.

Test for MV Switch Board, Transformer, and MV Cable.

a. Injection Test ( Primary and Secondary)


b. Insulation test
c. Partial discharge and ultrasound test
d. Infrared thermoelectric Detection.
e. Manufacturer Recommendation Test

Test of LV Switchboard

a. Mechanical Test
b. Continuity and dielectric test
c. Secondary injection test to recalibrate all measuring, protect and control circuits and
associated components.
d. Phase sequence tests on each outgoing units.
e. Functional checks, especially on the controlling devices and
f. Infrared Thermoelectric Detection ( include power factor correction equipment)
g. Primary Injection test.

Testing of Cables

a. Continuity test
b. Insulation resistance test and
c. Phasing test
Standby Diesel Generator / Generating Plant

a. Series of test starts and checks on ability to take up the load within the specified time
b. Check that speed variation is within specified limits
c. Voltage regulation test
d. Functional test of all plant protection features and alarms
e. Temperature rise test
f. Noise level measurement
g. Insulation resistance test
h. Building essential load test and
i. Infrared Thermoelectric Detection.

Hydraulic Test

a. Hydraulic test of 70 KPa for bulk tank not less than 2 hours.
b. Hydraulic test of 70 KPa for pipe works, valves and fittings for not less than 2 hours.

Testing of LV Power Distribution System

The following items, where relevant, shall be tested in the sequence indicated:

a. Continuity of ring final circuit conductors.


b. Continuity of protective conductors, including main and supplementary equipment bonding.
c. Earth electrode resistance
d. Insulation resistance
e. Insulation of site-built assemblies
f. Protection by electrical separation.
g. Polarity
h. Earth fault loop impedance.
i. Function of all items of equipment and
j. Infrared Thermoelectric Detection.

Lighting Testing Requirements

a. Illuminance / luminance measurements for normal, emergency and battery lightings


b. Illuminance / luminance measurements for battery lights at the end of 2- hours operation
c. Test to establish correct operation of switching control.
d. Insulation resistance test to earth and between conductors before and after fitting of lamps
e. Measurement of leakage current when directed by the Contractor.

Testing Lightning Protection system

a. Continuity between air and Foundation earth; and


b. Foundation Earthing.
Testing of Uninterruptible Power Supply UPS

a. Full test to Manufacturer Recommended Procedures


b. Full load test to verify the total back – up time
c. Infrared Thermoelectric Detection
d. Ultrasound Test
