ARCHDIOCESE OF LOS ANGELES
1531 WEST NINTH STREET
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA 90015
388-810 I

September 29th, 1981

Dear friends:

By divine ordinance the ultimate teacher in every

diocese is the Bishop. The Bishops are "authentic teachers, that
is, teachers endowed with the authority of Christ, who preach to
the people conunitted to them the faith they must believe and put
.. into practice. 11

In virtue of this posture it is our happy privilege

to be united with Bishop Johnson in extending a welcome to the
devoted members of the faithful attending the Religious Education
Congress.

We pray God's blessing on all who pilgrim here. As

from a fountain, may they draw water to refresh the souls of all
of those committed to their care who follow in the pattern of
Christ as they grow "in wisdom, age and favor."

Very devotedly yours,

C Timothy Cardinal Harming

Archbishop of Los Angeles

February 11, 1982

Dear Friends in Christ:

Once again it is my privilege to welcome you to Anaheim
and to the Diocese of Orange for the annual Religious
Education Congress. During these days of learning and
sharing, we will reflect on the Good News which has been
given to us in Sacred Scripture and Tradition.
We are being challenged to grow in wisdom, age and favor.
We open our minds to hear the Word. We open our lips to
proclaim the Word. We open our hearts to treasure the
Word, In this way we will receive the graces and blessings
showered orr us during this wonderful Congress. May your
enthusiasm serve as a light so that others may see in you
one who is "growing in wisdom, age and favor."
With prayerful remembrance of your intentions, I am
Christ,
