ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

PROCESSING OF BNS ONSE CONGRESS AND PLANNING FOR


CY 2012 BNS/DCNPC MEDIA EVENTS

I. INTRODUCTION

The Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholar’s Federation, Inc otherwise known as BNS
Onse and the Regional Federation of District/City Nutrition Program Coordinator
convened to formulate the Annual Work Plan for CY 2012 and discussed activities that
can be integrated to media events in the region.

The strengthening of the said Federation is vital to sustain the Barangay Nutrition
Scholar Program. This can also be a means to empower the Barangay Nutrition
Scholar Federation Officers to identify programs, projects and activities that will give
updates, additional skills, and income generating activities which will be an extra factor
among BNSs who are the heroes of the nutrition program. Likewise, the District/City
Nutrition Program Coordinators as supervisors of the BNSs that coordinates nutrition
program at the local level shall also be strengthened to solidify and unite them through
a Federation.

The conduct of the planning activities for CY 2012 will be beneficial for the
BNS/DCNPC Regional Federations and will give a sense of direction in line with the
regional nutrition activities. Thus, the National Nutrition Council XI facilitated the
conduct of the said activity to guide them and to provide technical assistance on how
their activities can be integrated in the Regional efforts to promote good nutrition such
as in advocacy related activities.

The 2 day activity was also dovetailed during the conduct of the Program
Implementation Review considering that the BNSs and DCNPCs as implementers in the
delivery of basic health and nutrition services knows the different dimensions in
program implementation in terms of what program or activities works well, what
program or strategies needs to be sustained and what needs to be stopped.
On the other hand, this activity was also an opportunity for the BNS Onse Officers to
process the status of the 1st BNS Congress conducted to further improve the system in
the coming BNS Congress activities.

II. OBJECTIVE

The following are the objectives:

1. To formulate Regional BNS/DCNPC Federation annual work plan for CY 2012


2. To process 1st BNS Congress and discuss strategies to improve the system for the
coming Regional BNS Congress
3. To discuss Income Generating Opportunities with representative from Salinas
Food Incorporation
4. To discuss the status of BNS/DCNPC Federation By Laws for SEC Registration

III. WORKSHOP OUTPUT

The Regional BNS and DCNPC Federation Officers were split into 2 groups for the
planning workshop. They were given a sample matrix for the planning workshop where
they can indicate the proposed program, projects and activities for 2012. After the
processing of the plan, they are requested to present their output for discussion,
clarification and critiquing.

VI. ISSUES, CONCERNS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
ISSUES AND CONCERN REMARKS

BNS Regional Identification Card It was proposed that there should be a


Regional BNS Identification Card to be
issued to Barangay Nutrition Scholars
nationwide for identification purposes.

NPC Ungson was amenable with the


issuance of Regional BNS ID and
suggested that the period of effectively will
be within three years just in time within
the period of service of the elected
Barangay Officials.

BNS Academy NPC Ungson proposed for the conduct of


BNS Academy to groom potential BNSs
with essential technical skills,
interpersonal skills to develop them to
become effective and efficient in their
performance as Barangay Nutrition
Scholars.

The proposed BNS Academy will be


conducted next year once resources are
available.

BNS Congress The 1st BNS Congress was a learning


experience both for the BNS Officers and
NNC XI staff. The processing of the 1st
BNS congress gave some insights among
the BNS Federation officers on how they
can further improve the system in the
coming events especially the functionality
of the committee’s assigned as well as the
system in the flow of the registration of
participants.

The BNS Federation Officers are still on


the process of securing official receipts for
the said federation. For the meantime,
they tie up with the Rotary Club of Pag-
Asa Davao for the receipts to be issued to
the participants in the BNS Congress.

The 2nd BNS Congress will be held in


Tagum City. It was stressed that food
coupons for meal will no longer be
included in the kit however, they can
provide snack food in the BNS kits.

Raffle prizes are being discussed


highlighting the cash prizes to be received,
to wit:

First prize – P10,000


Second prize – P10,000 ( for 2 winners) at
P5,000 each
Third prize – P9,000 (for 3 winners) at
P3,000 each
Consolation prizes – P30,000 worth of
items

T-Shirt The BNS Officers shall be wearing a


printed T-shirt with BNS Onse logo during
their attendance to BNS meeting. It will
serve as their official uniform during
attendance to BNS activities.

Income Generating Activities Salinas Foods Incorporation introduced


income generating opportunities for the
BNS and DCNPC Officers through the
selling and distribution of their iodized salt
and mineral products.

The BNS/DCNPC Federations considered


the proposal and may start their IGP next
year when feasible.
