Specifically, your duties involve:

1. Application of technical skills such as welding and machine operation.

2. Monitoring every aspect of the welding and fabrication processes of structural and
machinery parts.
3. Thorough inspection of the structural elements concerning the multi storey platform.
4. Supervising maintenance works compromising the structural elements and machine
operation.

Based on the working condition :

1. Discuss potential accidents that could happen at the platform.

2. Suggest suitable accident prevention methods and discuss how it can minimize the damage
caused by the accidents.

As a Mechanical Engineer at an offshore oil rig platform, I should aware with all the upcoming
accidents that can occur at the platform.

1. The accidents are such as fires and explosions.This thing will happen when the
inexperienced worker handles the machine carelessly. The effects can be devastating in
terms of lives lost,injuries,damage to property and the environment .

Prevention:
As anengineer, we should give workers consistent training session. This is because when the
worker have more experience, they will more caution about all the stuff around them. Based
on “Offshore Oil Rig Accident sand How to Prevent Them. (2014,February17).”it stated that“
 One of the key things offshore oil rig companies can do is prepare the iremployees to the
best of their ability. This can often take the form of training sessions, where employees are
put in situation sand told toward their way out of it. Typically these sessions are about the
day to day working’s of the rig and a person’s ability to help pull the oil from under the
ground. Usually there’s a supervisor close at hand to judge the work and give suggestions on
how to improve their work, with out trying to seem over bearing. ”.Thisthing should bed one
so our employees have an expert experiences in handling the machine. This way we can stay
away from this accident happen.

2. The other potential accident can occur is contact with objects or equipments. This thing will
happen when the equipment do not well keep and not well maintained. The equipment is
not be arranged properly by the workers.

Prevention:
The awareness of hesituation should be the main factor to prevent this problems. Based on
“Top 5 Causes of Offshore Oil Rig Injuries : The Krist Law Firm,P.C.(2018,August06).”, it
stated that“ Oil rig and platform workers deal with heavy machinery everyday. Workers can
best ruck by falling objects or crushed between equipment that is not properly secured , is
used incorrectly by crew members, or when workers have not been properly trained in the
safe use of equipment. According to the CDC, contact with objects or equipment was the
cause of 16 percent of all work-related fatlities in the offshore oil and gas extraction industry
between 2003 to 2010.”. To prevent this problem to occur, we must conduct routine
housekeeping. Based on “Offshore Oil Rig Accidents and How to Prevent Them.
(2014,February17) ”it stated that“ Keep floors, path ways and work areas clear of
unnecessary item stop revent trips, fall sandstruck-by hazards. Also, clean up drilling fluids
that may collect on the rig floor during pipe handling operations, and display sign age that
directs workers to emergency and safety equipment, to combat hazards quickly.”. This way
will ease the workers job also prevent them from accidentally encountering any objects or
equipment and keep them away from any harm.
3. The next accident that might be occur is falls, slips, and trips.when the worker is careless
this accident is not impossible to happen.. It also can be a serious case.
Prevention(offshoreinjury,2019):
As an engineer, we should care about every aspects of our workers during their working
time. This help to advising them when they do any mistakes. Based on “Offshore Oil Rig
Accidents and How to Prevent Them. (2014,February17)”, it stated that “Safety must be the
chief concern of every one on the rig, and that include sub contractors. Select only those
whose safety record exemplifies that priority and refuse to bring anyone on the rig which
doesn’t. Take them through the same orientation and training that you would expect from
your employees. ”. As an engineer, It is our job to educate our employees and
subcontractors to follow the right way to keep the safety. The subcontractor also need to
obey the rule and be more care of their own self. There is no enough time to remind all the
subcontractor about the safety .As they follow the right path, any accidents would not
happen and decreasing.
4. The other accident that might be occur is substance and chemical exposure. Based on “The
Top Five Causes of Offshore Oil Rig Accidents .(2018,October17).”, it stated that “Oil rig
industry workers can come in contact with avariety of substances through out a day’s work
such as the oil that is drilled, fluids used for drilling, or other hazardous chemicals. Exposure
to these substances can result in a variety of bodily reactions including allergic reactions,
burns, rashes, respiratory problems, injury to internal organs, or even asphyxiation.”.

The steps that we must takes to prevent this from happen is we should wear the required
personal protective equipment when on the sites. By doing this, we would not exposed the
dangerous thing that will brought harm whenever it touched us. Based on“Offshore Oil Rig

mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses,hard hats, gloves,
steel-toedboots, respirator sand fire esistant clothing.That doesn’t mean, however, that all
rig workers wear them.”. Just follow the simple rule can make the better future or condition
for us. (bartbernard,2019) to having the save workplace is not easy if we don’t follow the
rule of woking
